I've been jonesing for a Ruger Bearcat for several years now. Today, I picked up a lightly used stainless Bearcat Shopkeeper. It's small, but it has to be the densest feeling 23 oz. of gun I've felt in some time.

The birds head grip shape and width forms to the meaty palm of my hand surprisingly well. The cocking of the action feels more solid than on my Single Six.

This is one sweet little revolver. Time for a Chicharrones' happy dance. :D

That is one, dare I say, "cute" revolver! Would make for a great little Kit Gun with that 3" barrel, round butt, and stainless steel construction. You done good my friend!

    Good catch!

My Bearcat is the standard 4" Stainless. I want a stainless Shopkeeper.

I would've bought one of those locally if I found one and the price was right. The full length ejector on the 4" is a plus. :)

Ya' know looking at your photos of your Bearcat I'm amazed at the amount of markings Ruger managed to get on the one side of that little 3" barrel! There's the company name and address, the company trademark (registered of course), the cartridge it's chambered for, and the good old corporate lawyer's instruction for you to (wait for it),...read the instruction manual!

Yeah, it's too bad that Ruger didn't get all that text completely under the barrel like they did on my Single Six. Oh well. :D

I know it's no big deal but you're right; they could have put all that stuff on the underside of the barrel. A friend of mine had a stainless Ruger Vaquero in .44 Magnum (along with the same kind of markings you have on the side of the Bearcat), where the barrel wasn't installed correctly in the frame. And since Ruger no longer had .44 Magnum barrels in stock for this model (this was the original large frame Vaquero), they made one up from scratch, just for this gun.

When they got the barrel installed they noticed the polishing of the barrel didn't match the rest of the gun so they polished up everything so it looked right. Another nice thing about all this: they only put "Sturm Ruger" on one line and "Vaquero .44 Magnum" right below it; all of this being placed on the bottom of the barrel! Way to go Ruger!

I should have never clicked on this thread. I have wanted one of those for many, many years. Nice looking gun. I don't know if I like the 3" or the 4" better.

The one thing that has stopped me from buying one of these is the fact that I have an old flat latch S&W model 34-1 that is about the same size and weighs 24 oz. So a Bearcat would be duplicating what I already have. Sorta.o_O

Ruger did offer a 3.5" barrel Bearcat, with a fluted cylinder! Could be the best of both worlds. :)
