I have what I thought was a 1922 Browning pistol, but it has target sights and that stupid "Thumb shelf" grip on the left side, besides constantly reminding me that Americans in 1968 allowed infringements without a fuss that thumb shelf keeps me from activating the grip safety.
Thinking it was a 1922 I bought flat grip replacements, but alas they were 1/2" longer.
OK, so today I found out it's actually a 10/71, designed to pass GCA68. The grips all have lugs projecting from the back sides that fit into trapezoidal holes in the frame. The location of the holes appears to be the same on the backs of the actual 1922 grips, so it seems possible to cut the bottom 1/2" off walnut grips made for the 1922 and rechecker the bottoms.
Am I on the right track on this? Here are the walnut grips, the angle would need to be altered as well as cutting it shorter, and the border would need to be cut below the checkering;

Alternatively, do any of you know where I can buy grips for the pistol that don't have that thumb shelf?
Thanks folks,

Hmm, I must be the only guy with one of these, at least one with thumb shelf grips he hates.

I ended up buying the Browning 1910 wood grips, had my GS cut the bottoms to fit the frame and re-checkered the bottom area with a border, looks good. The boss cut on the backsides of the grips fit nicely tight, just a tad shaving to fit. For the record this is the way to go for those who likewise hate thumbshelves demanded by 2nd amendment infringement politicians.
