Greetings! I’m new to the forum, I have recently acquired an old browning 81 blr in .308 win.Unfortunately I do not have a magazine for it, It is my understanding that the magazines for these have changed slightly over the years. I cannot seem to place the date that the gun was made. The serial number is 16661PY227. All help is appreciated. Thanks!

According to the chart you posted, PY looks like '82

To the original poster: be thankful you have a series 81, at least magazines are available. Earlier model magazines are as common as hen's teeth.

You might want to get two just in case.

Also any magazine based on the .308 cartridge will work. I have one 22 250 magazine and one 243 magazine.
I use them in my BLR white gold medallion. I use to have BLR 81 and they fit and functioned just fine.

An aside for grins: there's a pretty handy BLR setup with ghost ring sights, a forward scope mount and weapon light featured in the Tom Selleck film "Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt" (photo here of actor Robert Carradine.)
