I have a line on a Belgium FN Hi Power 9mm, I've never owned one and always wanted one. I love JMB designs as I have a several Winchester levers and a Winchester 1906, so it is a definite hole in my JMB collection. By the pictures it looks in good-excellent shape, the owner says there is a minor blemish on the slide but other than that in good working order. It comes with only one magazine and no original box or paperwork. Serial number makes it a 1982 vintage.

I've always said the Belgium made Hi Powers are some of the best, is that true?

What is a good price for a Belgium FN these days? I know they are starting to creep up in price since they've been discontinued.

He's asking $750.

Thoughts?

I'm in WA state and that price seems to be kinda fair, BUT it depends on which model it is, what kind of grips are on it, obviously condition, and how badly you want it.

There are others, online for less money but probably in not as nice condition...if you are looking for a shooter check these out, CDI is a very good company to deal with:

I bought one from them and had it redone....duracote, really good grips, trigger, removed the mag disconnect, and bobbed the hammer a bit to eliminate bite. I probably have about $700 or so in it but it's a like-new gun.

Where in Pacific NW are you located? There's a LGS in Bothell, WA with about six or eight in the case.

Bit steep IMO unless as new. But it's your money and they aren't making any more of them until further notice. I wouldn't feel bad about paying that if I really wanted that one.

@Redcoat3340 thanks for the opinion on CDI, I’ll file that away for future for a cheaper HP that needs some refinishing.

I’m in Idaho. I know I want one for a range shooter and to be a part of my “collection” that’s original, so I don’t really want a rough condition one. If I enjoy shooting it like I anticipate then I would look for one that needs reconditioning for more of a beater gun.

I’ll see if he’s flexible on price and what condition it’s in. I just know that these originals are going to get any cheaper but I don’t want to overspend here either.

How much are you seeing a good-excellent Belgium HP’s going for in your area? Or are you speaking of gunbroker but they seem to be quite expensive in there, more in the 800-1200 range in the condition it seems this one is in.

Depending on vintage, configuration etc... $500 to $900 is where you want to be on a BHP. Do not pay more for Belgium guns unless you are collecting not shooting. The BHP has been assembled in Portugal since about 1975-1977 even if they were not market that way. By 1982 full Belgian BHPs were a thing of the past.

This is a forged frame MKIII which cost me $500 OTD from a Gun Broker auction in 9//2017

I've owned two and still have the second one. I bought it new long enough ago that I can't remember the year I got it. I do remember they weren't very expensive at all back then, however. The first one I had customized and should never have let it go. I like the High Power.

You done good. I'd buy one at that price. (Actually, I did! And a bit more but it had Esmaralda custom grips (current price $200) and it was pristine.

I talked him down to $660. It has a scratch on the slide but but other than that it’s in good condition. I’ll try and get some pictures tonight.

I'm not a fan of the GP but $660 is fair price for one that hasn't been heavily used.

At $660 that sounds like a good price on a Hi-Power, provided everything checks out okay.

I had a T Series made in 1966 that was beautiful on the outside but had one of the worst single action triggers I have ever encountered on a pistol. Combined with those tiny sights, loose slide to frame fit, and a safety that required a hammer to put it on/take it off, the gun had Minute of Barn accuracy.

Fast forward to the mid-'80s when the new Mk.II was introduced, plain as a mud hut, but boy can this one shoot! Great trigger right out of the box (never even bothered taking the mag safety out), easy to see sights, great overall fit (the finish is durable; I will say that about it), and puts them all were it counts every time. I take it with me every trip to the range.

I'd flipping jump on that BHP for the new price. In addition to all the sage advice here, and in other BHP threads, keep in mind that there are no and I mean *no* new BHPs in the pipeline. What we have is what we have.

I’ve wanted one for a long time and couldn’t resist any longer. Ended up buying this MkIII from a THR member last year. Love it
