WHave a bought new made in Belgium assembled in Portugal Hi Power dated 1994. Still original and fired no more than 500 rnds through it.

Wanted to shoot +P so I got a Wolf 18.5 lb recoil spring. What a pain to replace and I can only rack the rack the slide with the hammer cocked.

It’s loaded with NATO 124 gn rounds. Ranges are closed but I think it will be fine because I used to use Winchester 115 gn.

Went to BH Spring solutions and they have a package to replace all the springs. Looks good

Anyone ever used then? Should all the springs be replaced? According to u-tube most if not all springs are under compression.

Thanks,

Jim

you should be fine using the stock spring with +p loads.

I would refrain from advising spring weights and +P ammo, because it usually steers to pointless arguments with poor noise to signal ratio. Having said that I would advise, before shooting the pistol, to check if the recoil spring is not binding - the slide should hit on the frame when recoiling and Wolff recoil springs have a tendency to be a bit long. It's not such a big deal as with some other pistols, but it puts unneeded stress to the guide rod and shortens slide travel.

Agree with all the above. Put the factory spring back in, along with standard 9mm loads. Why mess with something that's working within the limits for which it was designed?

Why was it a challenge to replace the recoil spring?? Do you take the gun apart and clean it when you shoot it? Hi Powers are easy to field strip, and the recoil spring is easy to take out when you field strip it... Why do you want to replace all the other springs with only 500 rounds fired?

Try a Sprinco recoil buffer. Until it breaks in, you'll still be cocking the hammer to rack the slide for a little while. I have one and i only shoot Federal 115 standard target fodder and Federal 9bp Classic. Firearm barely moves from recoil. Stephen Camp wrote about these as well.
