Please share your experience of using Buffalo bore .38 LSWCHP ammo in a snubby. Also, I wonder about the legal implications if - God forbid - one has to use such ammo. I mean, reading quite informative posts here, I'm led to imagine [perhaps unnecessarily] an attorney telling a jury, "S/he just didn't use ANY ammo; s/he used the 'steroid' ammo named BUFFALO BORE!!!!!!!"

Never tried their 38 spc loadings, but I have used their products in several other calibers. They tend to load "hotter" than most, and legally speaking it should not make a difference as long as it is a "good" shoot and you hit the bad guy only. If you miss and nail an innocent, it won't matter if you are using the most anemic ammo out, you will be sued.

People use higher pressure ammo all of the time... including cops.

I put their +P 158 grain load through a 2.5 inch Model 19 last weekend as well as some Winchester +P 158 grain LSWCHP. I was a little startled by the Buffalo Bore, it seemed to recoil in a similar fashion to the 125 grain .357 (mid range) loads I shot as well.

I liked it but if it snorted that much in a K frame, I might be leery of it in a J frame.

All I can say is the recoil is quite painful out of an Airweight Model 37. You're worried about what people will think of the name?

Perhaps you should start your own ammo company: "the painless hollowpoint ammunition company. Just enough power to stop a deadly attack. Coated in novacaine for gentle penetration." :D

I use Buffalo Bore std pressure 158gr lswhp's in my carry guns. The stuff works. The std pressure has less felt recoil then Remingtons "FBI" load. I can shoot pretty good groups with my 642.

The only downside is it ain't cheap. At the range I shoot my homemade 148gr wadcutters and at the end a cylinder or two of Buffalo Bore.

Armscore ammo

TehK1w1, a friend just told me that your description of Buffalo Bore ammo fits Armscor ammo EXCEPT that the latter is NOT "-expensive"! What about the noise generated by it? Thanks

I use BB 158 +p. You can definitely tell they are no ordinary .38 when you touch them off. I use them in my 3 inch GP-100 and S&W 60. I wouldn't want to use them in an airweight gun due to the recoil. Some might have no problems with it. Not for me.

Buffalo Bore, Double Tap are both premium ammo makers and their stuff runs on the 'hot' side. Double Tap makes .38+p that l am getting ready to order for my Sp 101. Their .357 is a little warm for my tastes in a snubbie

I keep a few boxes of Buffalo Bore ammo in several calibers on hand because it seems like some of the best on the market. I use the 158 +P in my 4" barrel S&W Model 10s and 64s, so can't relate any experience in a snubby. My impression is that it'd be one heck of a sharp snappy recoil in an airweight, though.

I've used Buffalo Bore .38 LSWCHP in both standard and +p version in my 642. You can read my observations by clicking the Behind the Barn link in my sig.

I actually use BB's 150gr wadcutter in my 38 spec carry guns.

Just what I was looking for!

Thanks, rdrancher. Your sig hyperlink is just what I was looking for by way of help to decide if to use BB for my SP 101. Thanks.

Both +P & Standard Pressure

I've fired the BB version of the FBI Load in my SP 101 and my 686+. It was downright stout in the Ruger, feeling like a lower level .357 round. In the 686+ it was warm but very controllable, highly accurate.

I carry (and shoot) the "standard pressure" version of the 158 gr .38 spl LSWCHP. Its VERY accurate out of my 642 and I have absolute confidence in it to do the job. But it still gives a good smack to the hand, making me feel that if its not at a +P level, its not too far behind. But still very controllable and accurate.

I don't even want to think about what the +P version would be like out of my 642 - certainly be vaguely unpleasant :what:

I've never tried their .357 loadings out of my 686 - maybe someday when I feel the need to punish myself :scrutiny:

fired 10 rds of the BB +P 38's thru my 642, sharp recoil, follow up shots were slow and made the palm of my hand sting. :)

GDHP

...and it sounds like I will stick with the Speer short barrel .38 GDHP - no fragmentation, no blood on the web of the hand, perhaps a bit less penetration. And when I feel like it, the Winchester 145 grain STHP magnum.
