Planning on a Black bear hunt in the Kenai this summer. One problem is my buddy’s rifle is a Ruger .44 mag carbine, which may be a bit light but with the right loads, I imagine it’ll do the trick on black bear’s. I recommended Buffalo bore ammunition to him. Is the any particular buffalo bore load anyone recommends for Black Bears.

The gun is a Ruger Deerfield carbine .44 mag. I don’t know anything about the strength of that particular gun, but I imagine if it’s anything like other Ruger’s it’s pretty strong. The other possibility is I could loan him my slug gun, but I’d rather he stuck with a gun he’s familiar with.

I'm not sure what the twist is.

See Buffalo Bore's site for a discussion of twist.

I believe their .44 Magnum loads (not +P+) are within SAAMI specs. However, the twist determines how big a bullet the gun will shoot accurately.
