Building a rifle similar to the post-ban Bushmaster M4?

Man, I'm sorry you live in NJ. The very notion that you would be restricted to something so neutered is insulting and apalling.

I understand if you can't, but I'd suggest moving. (And I know how unhelpful that is, and I'm sorry.)

Not the Bushmaster, but I got the following prices on these items from Legal Transfers. Good price? Is this all I need to put together a working AR-15?

$643 shipped on a Stag M-4 Post ban Kit with Perm attached NJ Legal Brake and no lugLPK and 10 Rd Mag and fixed 6 pos style stock

I built my first AR this past Sunday. Here is a list of my costs.
Stripped Receiver (DTI) $95.00
FFL Transfer Fee $25.00
Upper Kit Including
Lower Parts $687.00
Shipping 34.39
2 30 Rnd Mags 29.90

Total Project Cost $871.29
Time Spent on Assembley 1 hour.
The upper kit came assembled.
Check out Del-Ton at www.del-ton.com.
You can configure your project like building a computer online.
Very satisfied with this company.

Randy.

Shop around for complete uppers and complete lowers. You'll save money that way. I got my complete post-ban upper from Pete @ Legal Transfers for $489 shipped to my door. Then got a complete lower with Ace ARFX stock, shipped to my local shop for $270ish. The upper and lower are both Stag.

So for $759, I got a pretty nice AR which will fit my needs, and it's post-ban, because I live in NY:(.

Magic Man,

I just bought that rifle last week for $959 with the A3 flat-top at Tip's Hardware in Tuckerton, Ocean County. They have one with the A2 receiver in stock for $875 right now. I thought it was a fair price, don't go by the MSRP on Bushmaster's website...Good luck.

Ok, this AR shopping is frustrating thanks to NJ laws. Who can show me a decent complete post-ban AR-15 clone for around $700 or less?

MagicMan, I missed this post from you, before I posted:

To answer it, no, that's not all you need. With that kit, you still need a stripped lower. Then you need to assemble the LPK into it.

I'm telling you, the easiest way is to get a complete upper, and a complete lower. Slap them together, then your done.

Go to ar15.com, check out some of the sponsors, and look for post-ban uppers. Most vendors don't advertise post-ban uppers, but they will configure what they have into post-ban for you usually, for cheap or free. Then find a complete lower, with a fixed stock, and you're set. All you need is mags then.

Legal Transfers is a great place to deal with. If you decide to go Stag, go with Pete at Legal Transfers.

You can get better than a Bushmaster for cheaper, if you buy the upper and lower separately. Can I ask why you are so set on Bushmaster?

I am not set on BM. However, I want to buy a complete rifle. Don't have the patience to assemble one right now. Too many other things on my plate.

How do you folks feel about Stag Arms ARs?

Its a nice gun for money. I used some of thier parts and some friends of mine have them and they are good shooters.

Stag is good to go. That's what I have, and what I posted a picture of above.

About you saying you want a complete rifle, because you don't have time to assemble one. That's not what I was referring to.

If you buy a complete lower, and a complete upper, all you do is literally put put them together, and push the 2 pins in, and you have a complete rifle. I wasn't talking about actually building one from a parts kit.

For example, the one I have pictured above: I bought the lower, complete with stock. Then I bought the complete upper. Both are Stag. If I were to buy that same rifle, as a complete rifle, it would be $925. That's the price, straight from Stag's website.

But by buying the upper and lower separately, I only paid $759. So I saved $166 just by going that route. I could of saved more, but I wanted the Ace ARFX stock upgrade, so I paid a little more for it.

The only "assembly" required is as much as you would do to break the rifle down to clean it, and put it back together. Push 2 pins in, and you're done.

I was in your shoes a couple months ago. I was about ready to plop down over $900 for a Bushmaster at the local Gander Mountain. But after reading, and asking around, I found out how to save some money, and get exactly what I wanted.

Well I'm either going w/a Stag 2RH for $800 or the BM for $900. Thanks for all the help. :)
