I’ve got an EOTech 557 with 4x multiplier mounted on my Colt 6920 flattop (standard hand guards-no rails). It has a fixed front sight, and I’m looking for a flip up BUIS-Troy seems to be highly recommend, so I’m leaning that way at the moment, but for anyone with experience, would like to know:
1. Will the Troy clear the 4x multiplier when down?
2. Will I have enough room to mount the Troy with the 4x mounted? Looks like I’m ‘bout outta space back there!

I have the quick release on the multiplier, so I could use the quick release to lose the 4x multiplier and mount a BUIS, but was wondering if I can get all three mounted on the flattop? I’ve got the EOTech as far forward as it will mount, and there ain’t much rail left out back!

Gonna haff to call Troy tomorrow and see if they know.

If you know of any other quality BUIS that might work, let me know.

Thanks

It should work if you use the LaRue mounts, this one isn't mine but here's a pic:

EDIT: I just realized the sight in the pic is an Aimpoint and not the EOTech, but I'll leave the pic up, maybe you can get a similar set up using EOTech/magnifier/BUIS.

Just got off the phone with Troy, but they couldn't give me an answer-just that as long as I had one rail showing I should be OK.
Guess I'll give one a try-I did move my EOTech forward another notch-probably where it should be, but it looks to me like the bottom of the EOTech is actually touching the handguard locking rings, although everything seems tight.

The 557 has a step built into it so it can be mounted forward and still clear the handguards-looks to me like they may be off just a tad-don't know that I like it resting against the locking ring as it is.

Gonna haff to see if I can find some pix over at EOTech's site and see how far forward they have 'em mounted.

Anybody know who has the best prices on the Troy?
I'm not finding many price variations out there-best I've found so far is $132, which is only $8 cheaper than MSRP.

I have the setup in question but with a 3x. It sure is tight but it works. Its all factory mounts on an 16in cmmg.

Someone over at the "other" high road may have my answer.

He says if you have the double heat shield hand guards the 557 will contact 'em-at looks like what mine is doing. He said he had to install the single heat shield handguards which give more clearance.
The delta ring looked like it was touching, but I was looking at it from the side-checked with a flashlight and didn't notice the groove on the 557 which clears the delta ring.
My 557 appears to be touching the handguards on one/both sides where it ramps up to clear the hand guards. I may have to check on getting a set of single heat shield hand guards to see if they give me more clearance.

He gave me a link to this picture:
http://www.ultimak.com/EOT557.htm

My 557 does not have a parallel gap as shown in the picture, since it touches at the rear of the handguard.
I'll have to play with the mount a bit more, but sounds like changing to single shield guards may be the way to go?

I assume I'll be OK with the 4x setup AFA rail space-I assume the 3x in the picture uses the same mount as my 4x.

As you heard from your pal at the other THR, an EOTech will clear a Delta Ring, it may not clear some handguards. Mine didn't clear the handguards that came stock on my Stag Arms AR.

Don't know what to tell you about your magnifier and troy, just sharing some experience regarding clearing the D-ring

I just ordered a set of RRA Standard CAR Handguards per e-mail from RRA (for lower height).

They have double and single heat shield hand guards-I was leaning in the direction of the single heat shield handguards until I got an e-mail reply from 'em-just noticed they have the single heat shield in green only.

Tried calling to find what the difference between the standard and R4 single heat shield was, but no luck with the toll free number (sounds like it’s now a FAX number).
I'm assuming the standard handguard has no heat shields?

Just got my new handguards installed and I now have enough clearance between them and the EOTech to move it and the multiplier forward enough that I now have 2 rails exposed at the rear-looks like I should be good to go with a Troy BUIS now.

I feel sure the Troy will clear the 4x multiplier-my problem was no room at the rear-Troy says I only need 1 rail.

Handguards were ordered from RRA, part number was AR0010A, price was $19 + $9 shipping for a total of $28 (took about a week to arrive-ordered online).
No mention is made of heat shields for these guards online, but they look identical to the ones I’m replacing AFA the heat shields. I’m guessing mine came with the R4 handguards with single heat shields?

Anywho-the CAR handguard is smaller than the R4 units and allows the EOTech 557 to clear the handguards.
