Bullet recommendation - 1:7 stainless

I have a bolt 223 and a Stag, been pretty happy with the usual 55 grain bullets status quo.

Recently put together an AR with all PSA parts. The upper is a 16", 5.56 stainless barrel with a 1:7 twist. I fully expect this to be a tack driver of a rifle with this barrel.

I have read about twist rate and bullet size. Looking to see if anyone on here has something similar and what they used. I plan to use this as a dog gun and punching paper at 100 yards. I have plenty Hornady 55 grain V-Max, Nosler Ballistic Tips 55 grain, Winchester FMJ BT 55 grain and some LC 62 grains. I tend to like Hornady bullets but really don't know what this rifle will like just yet.

Suggestions and recommendations?

Winchester FMJ BT 55 grain and some LC 62 grains.

It won't like those two, I betcha.

Use the V-Max & BT's for load development.

If anything will shoot, it will be commercial varmint or match bullets.

But certainly not mil-spec FMJ of any make or model.

The jacket hole in the base is a deal breaker with any FMJ bullet as far as 'extra special' accuracy is concerned.

So don't waste the powder, or primers, or time trying.

If you can get the 69 grain Sierra Match Kings I would try a box. I have always been pleased with Sierra's match bullets. Being a hollowpoint, you can use them for hunting as well.

Nosler 55gr. BT's have shot very good in every .223 I've loaded them for. If you were looking to stretch you paper punching out to 300yds or so, Hornady 75gr hpbt's are good bullets, but they probably won't give you desired results on P-dogs.
