Last trip to the range proved just how bad my eyesight is and got me thinking about magnification. I saw this scope advertised and was just wondering if anyone has one and their opinions? I'm not really happy with the length, would really like something shorter.

Big question. Would my AR-15's front sight obstruct the scopes view and have to be removed or can it remain in place and not interfere too much? I don't really want to remove the iron sights

I've got two, both on ARs.
At 1x you will see just over your front sight if mounted in the PEPR mount and the sight functions like a Red dot for quick target aquisition.
Once you dial the power up the sight will disappear and the 4X is plenty of magnification for 200 yards minimum.
I think the eye relief is rated at a very forgiving 4" with a large eye box.
Very nice scope for an AR, I can about guarantee you'll love it.
Here's a pic of it set at 1x. I couldn't get my phone to focus completly on the reticle but you get the idea...

Thanks for the info.

I was seriously looking at the Burris MTAC setup but I don't really like that 11" length plus I think it is more scope than I really need for my everyday range plinking (no competition and no hunting). Maybe I'd be better off with a good, quality scope to help me see the targets better but I don't really think I need a high dollar optic for my purposes. 1-4x seems to be a good choice for me since I won't be shooting any further than 150 yds..

I found this scope and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it? I like the 9" length and the reviews seem pretty good but the low price tag has me worried.

I tried that one for a while and didn't like it.
The eye relief wasn't as good and the first focal plane reticle setup just didn't work for me.
Have you looked at the Tac 30?
It's about $100 cheaper than the MTAC and is basically the same scope.

I have an MTAC on my PTR and really like it, it's a pretty good scope.

If you're worried about the length, have you looked at a single magnification prismatic? They are pretty short.

Like So.

Variable adds some cost if you are keeping the same quality.

That link you posted in your first post Gravedigger also had a Fastfire red dot sight mounted on top of the scope, so if you're looking for a cheaper alternative, just get the MTAC rather than the MTAC/Fastfire combo. I've got both the MTAC 1-4 and the MTAC 1.5-6 and am happy with both. Since you're looking for a compact option, the 1-4 is just fine for the distances you want to use it for.

Since I already have a red dot all I need is the scope and mount. What are the differences between the MTAC and the TAC 30? As Fatdaddy stated, they appear to be pretty much the same except for the $100 difference in price, Is it worth it?

The rear bell (Tac 30) turns to adjust power level instead of a ring and the illumination is easier to use on the MTAC.
You can usually find a good used TAC 30 for around $200.

Mike, I don't know about that but I sure like that price +coupon discount for the MTAC/QD mount package.

Not sure if anyone really answered your question, but the difference between the TAC30 and the MTAC is that the MTAC is the next generation of the TAC30. Some people didn't like how the magnification/focus functioned on the TAC30, so Burris redesigned it and came up with the MTAC. More or less, the TAC30 is the "old" model MTAC...hence the price difference.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys. Bit the bullet and went ahead and ordered the MTAC with the PEPR quick disconnect mount from OpticsPlanet. I couldn't pass up on the package deal and 10% discount. :)

Ok Mike, the free shipping was tempting but I needed it sooner than 10 days so I went with standard. It's in your hands now!
