I got a package in the mail today courtesy of BDS which contained the scope he linked above. For a budget friendly scope, it is far from being “cheap”. Up close clarity is amazing. From roughly 30 yards and out you can read stuff pretty easily, and even closer it’s still pretty stinking clear. That has been a problem for me before where I actually have been too close for a shot, and that time was a bit dangerous for me as I had a young rutting buck ready to charge. With this scope that would not be an issue. Further out looks good as well, but I will refrain from comment for now simply because it’s not yet on a rifle, and I can’t get it set up to thoroughly evaluate.

One thing that was very thoroughly checked today was the fog-free coating as the scope sat outside in 45 degree weather until I got home, and then coming into the 72 degree house and me breathing on it the scope lens did not fog up. That’s another issue I think most of us have probably had when a warm breath hits a cold scope and our chance at a shot is ruined by the clouded lens. Again, not going to be a problem with this scope.

So far I am impressed. I have been looking through scopes in the $300 range and have been hoping to buy one at some point next year. This scope is absolutely as good as any of the scopes that I have been considering, and that includes some pretty highly rated scopes. Now I just have to find the time to get it situated, and get it in front of a camera.

Good to hear. Perhaps your objective impression compared to other scopes you used/tried will give confidence for other members to buy the "cheap" Bushnell Trophy line of scopes. For my eyes, I am sold on them.

Keep us posted.

Merry Christmas!

Got one on a compass 308, a Remmy 783 300 mag . Holds up just fine on both rifles . Not as nice as my 3200 elites but they are not 300 either

I am officially upgrading my initial impression to remarkable. I got the scope on the rifle tonight, and for the first time in 20 years, the scope rings will actually work on the rifle as they were intended to. The rings I bought when I bought the rifle are high rise see-through rings. They have a larger “shoulder” than most other rings, and as such I have always had to have my front ring turned backwards. That is fixed now (just barely) so I’m thrilled. I carried the rifle out on my back porch and was looking into the neighbors field and even in the dark I could easily make out his horses and mules, and I could tell which was which. Clarity is nice. Color is nice. I hope to get a few minutes over the next few days to try and get some images taken and uploaded with the DSLR camera.

The Bushnell Trophy line has always been a good value in the "inexpensive" scopes out there over the years. At $60 it should be a really good value.

Most people don't need the brightest scope available, most people are not dialing scopes up and down all the time. They set them and forget them and use them in broad daylight.

If anyone is in Kansas, I was at the Bushnell outlet in Kansas City today and they had the 3-9 x 40 with a 600 BDC reticle in the clearance cave for $30...some were the Trophy XLT and some were the “Bone Collector” model which is essentially the same thing. If you have a Kansas Rifle Assoc membership, they were 10% off. I bought two for $27 each figuring to switch out some cheap rimfire scopes :D
