I'm in the process of resurrecting a Remington 721 stock. It was seriously grimed up, the for end was chipped and scratched and the right side of the stock had been dished out.( Possibly by an angry beaver from the looks .) 
It's turning out to be a very nice piece of walnut underneath the grunge though so I think it's worth the trouble.
I had to do some especially serious sanding to get that one side profile evened out and in the process it took down the edges of the butt so now the factory plate won't work. I'd like to keep the curve of the butt as it is so what I think I need is a flat based butt plate that will flex or fit to the curve of the butt. A thin flat based recoil pad that would flex to fit would also serve the needed purpose.
What exactly am I looking for and is it available..?
