Buy Scopes with your Eyes

I researched, read, even took the advice of you guys when scoping my new Ruger 77/44. I was ready to purchase a VXIII for $399, but leaned toward a Leupold VXII 2-7 33mm for $299. Cash was ready. I saw the shop had a VXI, same numbers, for 90 bucks less. After giving it a look, I thought it looked like a scope worth that much less, and was ready to put the money on the VXII. Then I spotted a Redfield Revolution, 2-7 33mm for $130. Couldn't be. But I looked at it carefully. The thing compared favorably to the VXII for less than half the price. I didn't trust my 57 year old eyes, so I turned to the salesmen, two young men in their early 20s. They supported my findings. I now own the Redfield. I'd suggest to anyone looking for a scope in that optical range, look closely at the Redfield. To me, it's a very good scope, comparing very favorably with a Leupold twice the price. I wouldn't have believed it. I realize Leupold now owns Redfield but this is a case where clearly you don't always get what you pay for. Buy the Redfield and you get even more.

The redfield is much clearer. I am thinking about that very scope.

It is true, you should buy with what your eyes can discern. I had a similar encounter with binoculars instead of a rifle scope. I was getting ready to buy some steiners for $300 bucks more or less and a young salesman insisted that I look through some yosemite binos I think were made by leupold, not sure. I was hesitant because they were only $99. Long story short walked away with three that day my brothers were with me and a couple of weeks later their buddies wanted some also and ended up buying 3 more for them.

I'm in the process of building up a 25.06 for shooting at rocks. Real rocks not rockchucks. I just love to spot a different color rock out there a ways and see the dust fly up when I hit it. Anyway, I plan to put a Redfield on it. I don't think it's better than a Leupold but, just because I want one. I've have one of the old Redfields in 6x LPWF on an old 30.06 for darn near 30 years and it's still as good as day one. I hope the new ones are just as good.

I am not making the claim that these new Redfields are across the board better than chicken soup. But this particular model is just great. I'm sure some efforts come out better than others. This Redfield Revolution 2-7X33mm is one fine piece of work. $129 not on sale. I will enjoy it.

If you're not gonna spin turrets for yardage, all you need is a scope that will hold a zero. Might as well buy as cheap as you can from a quality maker who backs their product.
