Buying an AR15 in California

I am in California and was checking a local website. A guy has a lower AR15 receiver for sale. He said it was given to him from the wife of a friend who recently passed away. What do I need to do to legally buy it in CA? I'm not from CA. Back home, you can buy and sell long guns without having to go through an FFL, but I do not know CA laws. Thanks.

I believe you have to do a Private Party Transfer through a FFL.

It's pretty simple. If you wanted to buy it, you'd give him money and he can ship it to your FFL back home.

CA laws don't apply to you. Only federal laws and your states laws apply. He needs to ship it to an FFL in your state. If its legal in your state, they do the same as if it was a new gun they were selling you.
