A buddy of mine picked up a few M44s from SOG, and they had CRAPPY wood... but all had great metal, and good bores. They're only 39 bucks right now. At that price, even if you just get yourself a pile of bolt and sight parts, you've done good

I'm gonna buy a few just to have around. I may need parts/etc from them.

3 of the 4 he had were what I would call "excellent" in terms of bore condition.

Just a heads up

Hmmm, you must have gotten lucky then. I picked up a couple of the $39 Russians back in Dec (as Christmas presents for a couple of 12 year olds who like to pound their shoulders when we go to the range). The ones that I got had maybe 20-40% blue with surface pitting & an assortment of scratches/dings. The bore/barrel still looks like a sewer pipe hundreds of patches later. The stock wasn't cracked but it did look like the soldier used it to pound in tent pegs out in the field. For $10 more I would pick up a pristine example from AIM or Aztec. I really enjoy restoring old warhorses to servicable condition but the small difference in price really wasn't worth my time.

That said, it goes bang every time I ask it to & it looks like it has BTDT & is a neat piece of history.
