Awesome Apache 30mm Vulcan Gun MPEG!!!!

Ok, now that I've got you all here....

I have a couple questions about my C&R.

I have made about 10 copies and plan to mail them out to various C&R dealers today or tomorrow.

The first question: Do I have to sign the copies in blue ink?
A coworker swears some places will not accept the C&R copies if signed in black. I currently have countless numbers of black ink pens, I can't find a single blue pen around the house to save my life. I'd have to buy one... this is no big deal, but can't I just put any one of these copious medium-point-black-ink spawn freaks to use? I have them everywhere.

The second question concerns the proper method of mailing off the C&R itself.
A friend of mine just received his C&R as well. His wife suggested we mail our C&Rs together to save on postage (I would have eventually thought of this myself, of course). Is there any known reason why this would be unacceptable? In addition, is it custom to include a "This is my C&R, thank you" letter along with the license?

I just want to get this right the first time. It's the philosophy I used when applying for my C&R in the first place, which I received less than three weeks later as a result.

Thanks.

It doesn't HAVE to be in blue ink, but that's a good idea. It could even be in pink.

Reason not to mail together is not to confuse whoever is on the other end, who may or may not know which end is up and enter your info wrong or file you together.

I never write a letter, but just mail the license. The recipient should know what it is for.

Apaches have a chain gun, not a vulcan. ;)

I always use black ink, and have not had anyone balk at it.
As far as sending the C&R in, I call the place first to tell them it's coming. They usually say, "Yeah, whatever", and I send it in.

I'm sure the distributors have literally thousands on them on file.

I signed in blue. Red, purple, any non-black permanant ink will do.

The reason is they want contrasting ink is to prove it's actually your signature, and not a photocopy of someone else's FFL that is being misused by a non-licensed individual. A prudent level of CYA for you and them.

I sent all of mine out with a little cover letter, took me about 30 seconds each to cut and paste addresses into MS-Word and it's envelope wizard:

Dear AIM, SOG, KY Imports, CIA, CDNN, etc. etc. etc.

Enclosed please find a signed copy of my Curio & Relic 03 FFL for your files. Please add me to your mailing list for any catalogs or offers you may have.

Sincerely,

AJ Dual

If it's somebody I haven't worked with before, I usually send a copy out a few days in advance, or the day of the order if I'm worried it's a hot item. Usually they'll take your order and just hold it until the FFL arrives. That's what I did when I heard GPC/Numrich had a deal on good cond. French MAS 36's for only $36/$40 shipped

Excellent point, AJ Dual... ask to be put on future mailings. I suppose it would be good to request that in case it's not company protocol otherwise.

Thanks for the input folks (and now I know the Apache has a chaingun :D ).

Any other recommendations are most welcome.

BTW, is GPC/Numrich still offering the 7.5 MAS-36? I've been hunting one (along with a decent Arisaka type 38) for a while and the price you listed is most palatable.

Using non-black ink to "prove" the signature isn't a photcopy is just so much horse-manure. My color copier will render a blue ink signature as easily as a black ink signature.

I agree, but you're dealing with dealer-made rules, not anything the BATFE mandates. Amazing that many dealers can come up with something dumber than the government can concoct.

I have never seen a seller specify black ink but I have seen them specify both blue and red (one), I sign all of mine in blue, what is the hardship?

Last week I sent out 56 FFL's with cover letters asking to be put on their mailing list and asking for their latest catalog/flyer.

If anyone wants my list I have it set up in Word to print on Avery 5162 labels, I can email it to whoever wants it, then you can pick and choose which ones you want. The list came from AR-15.com. Let me know if you would like it.

My color copier will render a blue ink signature as easily as a black ink signature.
Yeah but I can spot the difference.

Now a lot of good law abiding FFLs don't know diddly squat about spotting a forgery, but signing in a colored ink does make it a little easier to spot. I can tell with my naked 48½ year old eyes if a signature in coloured ink was produced on a colour copier or not. But then detecting forged documents is somewhat of a specialty with me.

edited to remove information that could make it easier for some nefarious rascal to forge a signature.

Dont they have to send the merchandise to the address on the license anyways? SO what possible gain could someone have of photocopying your license and sending it out? Seems to me that they would be paying for stuff and having it send to your front door. If THAT makes you a victim of a crime then where do i sign up?!?

Seriously though is someone is going to fake the addy on your license then i doubt they will have a problem with signing YOUR name in ink on the license either.

A little off topic I guess, but it deals with C&R license. I recently had two dealers in Washington State refuse shipment of a Garand TO them because I was C&R, not dealer FFL. Huh?

Keoni, That's silly. Where was this? I regularly deal with 4 dealers in my area that will accept from individuals, so C&R should be no problem.

Let me know if you ever need an FFL in the Seattle/Everett area.

But let's not forget, you just can't just send a gun to an FFL and tell them your name is John Smythe. You have to give them at least some proof of where and who the gun is coming from.

After all it's the FFL who has to keep their assets covered.
