I've had several people at work praising these scopes, a FFP for $300. I believe this is pretty close to what I'm looking for but for hundreds less. Anyone else have experience with these?

I haven't handled or used one but as a cheapskate I've learned my lesson on buying cheap optics. Advanced features such as side focus, FFP, 30mm tubes and high magnification ranges invariably add to the complexity and cost of a scope. The cheaper the scope and the more features it sports means that it will disappoint you once the "checkbook factor" has faded. You will find the glass lacking, the mechanical aspects lacking and that you will almost never use the magnification past 9 power. Then you will wonder what you could have bought if you'd held onto those three Benjamins for a few more pay checks and got something a little bit better. SWFA comes to mind.

I don't know about the Cabelas scopes, but Primary Arms has several FFP offerings ~$230-300 price range, they have a lot of reticle variations that change the price a bit. I've got the 4x14-44 R-Grid reticle on my RPR and am thrilled with it and especially the price. I haven't heard of anyone disappointed with them so far, lots of youTube reviews of them.

Sure they are no Leupold or Nightforce, but if you are new to long range shooting, IMHO you'll get farther faster with more practice and better ammo that by spending 5X more for a better scope.

If Cabalas uses the same OEM as Primary Arms and takes the same care in ensuring quality control it could be a good value. I've met the owner of Primary Arms his key to success is his Chinese suppliers always say to him: "we can make it cheaper", he says: "we don't need it cheaper, we need it better for the same price"

Do you need to shoot at dusk/dawn? in the rain or snow? if so, you probably need better, but if for recreational shooting, $300 buys a lot of scope these days if you shop carefully.

I drank the koolaid and bought one of the Covenants. The reticle would cant when the magnification hit max or min. Cabelas had a few more in store that all did the same. Ended up with a Vortex Viper FFP instead.

I've never heard of such a thing! One of the advantages of buying from a local store -- easy returns if it not up to snuff!
