Cabela's store in West Chester Ohio is now open for business (North of Cincinnati). Dayton and Cleveland to follow

(Disclaimer: I have no financial stake in posting this, just passing on info to THR members who might be interested. This is a store that sells firearms and ammo, so it should be OK to post.)

Just an FYI for those that didn't know, the Cabela's store in West Chester Ohio is now open for business. The 82,000 sq foot store is located just off Liberty Way and Interstate 75. They plan to open a store in Centerville (near Dayton)in Spring 2016 and Avon (near Cleveland) in Spring of 2017.

Now if we can get a store to open up somewhere in Northern Kentucky, that would be the icing on the cake. Maybe somewhere in Boone or Grant County?

"WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) -Hundreds turned out as Cabela's celebrated the grand opening of its second Ohio store Wednesday morning.

Cabela's executives and special guests hosted a 9:45 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony at the 82,000 square-foot store just off Liberty Way and Interstate 75 amid a flurry of commercial development"

So here I sit patiently waiting and during trips to see family in Columbus making as I call them mandatory Cabela's stops.

They almost built up here in Cleveland when they considered the Columbus store. However, some small town bickering and politics had them back out. You have a goose that lays golden eggs and you shoot it? :)

Oh well, grandson birthday next weekend in Columbus so time to start my Cabela's list. :)

Honestly? I was all excited when Cabela's started building the Columbus store. It is a mere 5 minutes from my doorstep. Then, they opened it and I went to check it out.
I have been to it only 3 times in two years. The smaller stores are just not the same.
We still drive out to Wheeling now and then to go to a Cabela's 'destination store'.

Ours opened a few years back, 2 floors of everything you could imagine. Economy and reality set in and they shut down the upstairs. Their handgun
section slowly shrank in size giving way to the largest scope selection I've ever seen. The fact that Cook County hammered all dealers with a gun violence tax also did not surprise me. The novelty has worn off, haven't been there this year.
We also have a new Gander Mtn, so completion is ramping up. My LGS is a couple miles west, better sales attitude, lower sales tax and no gun tax.

I went to the new Cabelas today with my dog and was told dogs aren't welcome. There are Field & Stream and Bass Pro stores in the area that welcome dogs, Bass Pro even provides treats.

For a store that includes many products for outdoor dogs and dog related sports products, I was really taken back with their policy.

I will be boycotting it and not be returning there. I'd ask anyone who disagrees with their policy to do likewise.

Edit: I contacted Cabelas about this, and a popup on dog policy came up. They say they have indoor and outdoor kennels to leave your dog, but no mention was made to me about this. I'm still not happy that they don't allow dogs.

Some retailers allow dogs while some don't. Having a few dogs and being a dog loving person I can understand why some establishments may not allow dogs, starting with their liability insurance. It certainly would not be a deal breaker for me. While being able to have dogs in some establishments I don't even take my dogs to places that allow dogs. All of this of course without consideration for working / service dogs.
