Where does a 13 year old get 2 handguns and multiple magazines with one being an extended mag in California?

I thought California banned extended magazines?

They certainly prohibit 13 years olds from having guns.

California's strict gun control laws being easily thwarted here.

They say he may have been attempting suicide by cop which I believe 12 year old Tamir Rice may have also been doing sadly.

No one ever brings that up perhaps because of his young age. But obviously suicide and suicidal ideations can affect anyone.

A good example of why gun control laws don't work. My sympathy to the family, and to the law enforcement officers who had to face this life threatening event by doing something I am sure they didn't want to resolve in a manner in which they were forced to do.

Gun control does NOT WORK in terms of public safety, its real intent is to create huge demand for guns and ammo leading to incidents like this. The incidents are needed to assist our current govt's goal to get sheeple to vote against 2A.

With no intent to be arguementive ,you lost me there. I don't follow your logic or premise in that statement. I know that the threat of gun control laws can have the effect of increased sales, but I have a hard time understanding the belief that is the reason for gun control proposals, or why you think increased demand leads to the subject matter.

The picture snapshot with the Fox news above look like the frame from a Poly80 pistol, if so, I'm surprised they aren't screaming about the dreaded "ghost gun" too.

From the photos, the two handguns are P80s. It's conceivable that he ordered the frames and parts and did the work himself.

Don't know about the magazines, but they aren't as carefully regulated as firearms so I suspect they aren't too difficult to get. I know that during the AWB you could always get hi-caps in spite of the law. Even right at the end after 10 years of the law being in place. They just got more and more expensive.

(These laws were in 2018 https://oag.ca.gov/firearms/usna )

All firearms need a serial# in CA and the time frame to apply for a serial number has long passed for previously home built firearms. If that gun doesn't have a serial # long before now, then the made up 'ghost gun' term could/would apply and the gun be consider illegal.

The mags could actually be not illegal. As of now, (simplifying) you can possess 11+ round mags but you can't buy, sell, transfer, make, or import them. (You can sell them to out of state buyers or CA LEOs). The mag issue is still tied up in the CA9 after judge Benitez tried to free AC gun owner.

ETA: Obviously a 13 yr old can't possess the gun either way with out a parent but I'm unaware of any laws preventing a 13 yr old from possessing a mag.

It’s sad that the “news” is so messed up I don’t even focus on the subject any longer, rather how one could be trying to distort the facts in the words they use.

I read,
…with one being an extended mag…
and my first thought is “why didn’t they use their favorite term ‘high capacity’?”

Hmm, maybe it’s because a 7 round mag from a 1911 is “extended” in a compact and it sounds more dramatic.

As if the death of a child needs to be embellished…

I listened to it on the radio in real time as this went down. Clearly it sounded like the caller (the child) was setting the stage for this end result. He even fired shots as officers arrived, further ratcheting up the probability of this result.

It’s a genuine tragedy when anyone thinks this way, especially when it’s just a kid. My heart goes out to all involved :(.

Ca does require all home-manufactured guns to have serial numbers as the above posts mention. I think this incident will lead to even more laws that will further erode gun rights in this already insanely restrictive state. Here is a crazy flowchart that tries to make heads and tails of the assault weapon rules.

Stay safe.
