Calling all T-Grip experts

What exactly is the difference between the #3 and the #3R (for the S&W K/L frame, square butt and round butt respectively)?

If anyone has photos of the difference I'd appreciate it.

I have a project in mind to modify a set to work on my Dan Wesson 14-2 (mentioned here) and while I'm pretty sure the #3 is the right size, I'm not sure if I need the round butt or square butt one.

My experience is: I'm gonna refer to the top of the Tyler as the "arch". Although not a perfect semi circle, the arch on a 3R has a smaller diameter than a 3. After 40 yrs. of using tylers I can't see the need for a 3R. The only thing I can think is somewhere along the line Smith standardized the curve between the trigger guard and grip, so that curve is now the same between K frame RB and SB . I have no experience with N frame tylers. The J frame #1 fits all J's AND K/L's, and that's what I use exclusively. The K frame tyler is a bit wider than a J frame tyler. I've got a 3R shiney tyler here that I found really fits nothing perfectly.

Why not contact the Tyler-T-Grip people ? I bet they can tell you the differences and further advise which one you need for your DW

Briefly, the 3R is for the S&W K-frames with ROUND grip, while the standard #3 is for K-frames with SQUARE grip.

A bit of advice.

I cannot help you with your question since I only have one revolver with a T-Grip (S&W 686 square butt). The T-Grip people are great to deal with on the phone and their website has a pretty good chart describing what goes to what revolvers.

The bit of advice is don't order from them direct if you are in more of a hurry than 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 months receiving time. I ordered mine 2 weeks before Christmas ( to go with the rosewood laminate magnas I got for Christmas ) and received them 2 weeks ago. There is a place called D&R that a few people mentioned in threads here that supply fast. IIRC, if you Google T-Grips, their name will come up. Naturally, I learned this a couple days after my order was placed. Hopefully I helped you with this aspect of your project in time.

That's the one I have seen people post about. Haven't looked it up in about two months, so forgive my bad. That's where I'll go next time.
