I just built a 300 ham'r upper using an adjustable gas block and a lower that uses a jp silent spring. I run the same setup on several other uppers.

This one is a bear creek side charging upper, so no shell deflector.
I'm running a suppressor.
I am left handed.

as I restricted the gas, the ejection pattern moved toward the 5 o'clock position, like it should. The problem is that I can crank down on the gas until the empties are hitting me in the ear and face, and the bolt is still easily locking open. I can open the gas back up and move the ejection pattern to the 3 o'clock position, but at the expense of added recoil and gas blowback.
I'd like to do something so I can further restrict the gas to achieve a light recoil for fast follow up shots, without changing the buffer, spring, or upper.

So I was wondering if I clipped a couple coils off the ejector spring if that might change the ejection pattern? any other ideas? I really don't want to change the buffer weight or spring. it took no small about of effort and load development to get my cmmg radial delayed 9mm upper and endo mags to run my powder puff 9mm loads I use to stay subsonic.

( I crossposted this on ar15.com and got some suggestions, but to real concrete answer to my question. https://www.ar15.com/forums/ar-15/w...spring-change-the-ejection-pattern-/4-768239/ )

Close the gas all the way and slowly open it up until the ejection pattern is where you like it, and that’s the end of it. You can add a lighter buffer and close the gas but that will change the ejection directions and reduce the gas blow back.

Playing with the ejector can run you into trouble with reliably, not something you want for defense or hunting. I expect a clip on is out due to the side charger. Does JP offer different springs for their buffer system?

I first heard of this a few months back. Clipping the ejector spring was done for shooting matches where competitors are side by side prone on the firing line and as a courtesy to keep brass from hitting the next one to the right.

For most shooters, as long as it's moving away from you and not getting down your shirt then OK.

Sounds like the gas port is too large to meter for that adjustable gas block or it's not closing down completely. It should shut things down where the bolt won't open at all.

well, I cut a couple coils off my ejector spring and gave it a whirl. Rounds did eject further forward by about 2 hours on a clock face. I was able to restrict the gas a bit more. Cases now eject between 3 and 5 o'clock, about 7' away.

after the hunting trip, I might try taking an additional coil off.
