I think the public has access during certain times/days during the year, and curious if so, can anyone report on the experience? I'd be interested in informal high-power rifle shooting mainly, centerfire pistol secondarily. FWIW, I am a US vet if that makes any difference.

Also, is there anywhere near there that has ranges set up with steel targets, or other ranges to join? Thanks.

I volunteer each year at Camp Perry during the CMP Matches. While there I had the opportunity to shoot at the Petraca Range. The electronic targets on Petraca are wonderful. The electronic scoring was It easy to use and provided immediate feedback. Take twice as much ammunition as you think you will use. I went through almost 100 rounds with my buddies in no time flat. All three of us shooting had one grand time using the electronic scoring system.

I've shot the National Pistol Championships there several times, it is a nice enough facility if it is not raining. Plan on a day or time when the CMP has their North Store opened and go see what they are selling, maybe buy yourself a Garand. If you are inclined they have a Small Arms Firing School preceding most major events held there. For a small fee you get a class, range time and a match to shoot, well worth doing.
