Can anyone give me the load data for a 52gr Amax in .223

I have Speer 13 and a Lyman and neither of them list the Amax as a tip... Does anyone have load data for it or should i return them to the store and look for 55 or 60 Vmax???

The 2 powders i need info for is Varget and Reloader7... Dont need to know pressures or anything just minumum and max charge and FPS of both... Thanks yall

Heres a 53gr sierra HP....should be the same info

From the Alliant site

Fed. 2.25/ Fed. 205M /Reloder 7/ 20.9gr 3,165fps 53,300 ps1

Neither company lists the 52 amax but the bullets given should work for that bullet. Hope this helps

Hornady #6:

Varget - 52 gr. A-Max
23.3 starting.
26.0 Maximum.

No data given for RE7, probably because it is not an especially good powder for the .223 with that bullet weight, or any other for that matter.

Varget will give you at least 300 FPS higher velocity at max load, or the same velocity with a starting load as a max load of RE7.

Thanks RC... I knew someone somewhere ahd posted 26 was max for the 52 when i had asked if my 26.5 load for the 40 Vmax would be a good starting point... Guess i need a newer manual...


Now is it a fair assumption that its safe to use information for a different tip thats similar in weight like BsChoy gave... I think it would be but i am still a rook at this... I know the proper proceedures but dont know the accepted corner cuts...

RC Model is right about the powders for the bullets wieght....Varget or Benchmark would work better....even RL10

For what its worth, Lee 2nd edition list a 52 gr Jacketed with Reloader 7 with 19 gr start, 20.9gr max. Same as BsChoy posted from the Alliant site.

All of Lee's data is simply reprints from all the powder manufactures.
Nothing new there, because they do no load testing of thier own.

I would find load data for the specific bullet you are using. Using Sierra 52 match and Hornady 52 match I have seen enough difference in load data despite being the same weight. As example the max load with H335 is listed a few grains higher for the Sierra 52 in their manual compared to Hornady data with their 52.

My pet load is a 52grn A-MAX,26grn H-Varget,Fed205 primer in Rem brass,2.26col. It cronographs at 3079 fps,11.3 sd. and groups at 1/2moa. I shoot a T/C carbine,1in 14 twist,24"barrel

For most people they would be acceptable.. But it didnt work well in my Handi Rifle... Large group (23.3) was about 2 3/4" at 100... BEst group was 26gr with a group about 1" at 100 (i measure outside to outside for my group size.. I know most people go inside to inside but i jsut do it different)...
It kept getting better with speed... I know i am shooting a 1 in 12 rifle with a 1 in 14 made bullet but i figured i would give it a shot...
I think if i could have went to 27-27.5gr max out i could have gotten a really good group out of it..

I had just put a new Simmons Master Series Prohunter 6-18X40 scope on and had to sight in so i used some of my last 26.5 Varget 40gr Vmax loads... Nothing like putting 10 rounds into a quarter at 100yds ...
YEah thats a awesome group but i just aint happy with the lightweight 40gr tip... My local ammo dealer hasnt had 55 or 60 Vmaxs instock for over 6 weeks now... I had a itch to make ammo and wanted to step up in weight so i jsut grabbed the Amax.. Guess ill order some 55s and 60s Vmax from Midsouth so i know ill get them and see which one works best with Varget (my 30-06 shoots Varget the best so i would like to kaap my 2 rifles i load for on the same powder so i dont have powder laying around that dont get used much...
