I have a long gun permit for NYC. I am planning on staying with my girlfriend for a few months in the Fall (she lives in Buffalo), and I would like to keep my shotgun for home defense in her house. I was hoping I would be allowed to keep my gun outside of New York City for a couple of months. Does anyone know the legality here? Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't know about any rules that might exist for taking the gun in and out of NYC, but you're fine in the rest of the state as long as you travel with it unloaded.

No state level laws apply to non-AWB long guns, but there are a few cases in some cities where you may run into some laws concerning storage, etc.

Generally speaking, outside of NYC there are little or no state or local level restrictions on shotguns.

I can't even imagine haveing to worry about such A thing. Good luck with it but there are free states not far from you.

You should have no issues. You could always check the City of Buffalo's website to make sure there is no crazy storage law.

You could also have your girlfriend buy a shotgun in the same model as yours. No need for a permit and for her and when you return to the city it can be sold if she does not want to keep it. Buy an older used model and with a little elbow grease and a couple of bucks you might turn a tiny profit.

Then think about moving to PA. I left Queens a few years ago and could not be happier. I love my little place in the mountains. I am also able to buy anything I want including NFA items.
