I am considering the henry big boy rifle in 45colt for cowboy action shooting. I'm concerned that the tube magazine might disqualify it for competition since it loads from the barrel end and not from a gate in the receiver.

Also, anyone with input on this fire arm, please tell me what you think of the product.

The reason I am looking into this weapon is do to my aversion to the side gate loading method. The bloody gate always seems to be a bit of a pain :banghead: , so I figured the other method a solution.

Definatelly not legal for SASS matches.Local shoots 'might' allow 'em but even that is doubtful.....you'd be shooting an 'illegal' firearm in their eyes.
The discussion comes up quite a bit on the Wire, but until the 'powers that be' approve it,it's a no-no.
I have found a way to load my carbine that is quite easy...Push the cartridge in 2/3 of the way and trap it with your left thumb while hanging onto the carbine(trapping it against the loading table acutually)and then feed the next cart. in which pushes the first cart. in.goes real fast and no pinched fingers in a tight, sharp loading gate.
Or buy a Henry with the spring loaded 'plunger' in the tube...just DON'T let the follower slam against the ammo.KABLOOEY!!
