I study in Washington State currently and will transfer to an university in New York state(not in the New York City) 8 months later. I have done a little research online, but I didn’t see anything specific for non immigrant. Is there anyone familiar with this part of law? I do have hunter education certificate and alien firearms license of the Washington state though.

You need to be patient sometimes.

Part of the answer is that under federal law, which applies everywhere in the U. S., a foreign national in this Country on a non-immigrant visa may not legally possess (including owning or just handling) a gun or ammunition unless he actually has a hunting license (or falls with another of the few, narrow exceptions which are higly unlikely to apply here).

New York has extreme strict gun laws, and I’m not going to comment.

Thank you. I guess I need to go to local court ask about details.
