Can you shoot a .270 thru a .30-06?

Uncle Mike, we have a whole new crop of newbies, every year. All sorts of "What if...?" questions arise.

Sure, some are on the silly side. But anytime safety is involved, I think folks oughta be calm, polite and instructive--even if it's the hundredth time around.

Hey, I've been messing with guns for almost seventy years. You think I haven't heard more than my fair share of repeats? :D:D:D

Edit-correction. Seventy years; no "almost". I first shot a .22 in 1940, even before I got my first BB gun. :)

Interesting, Runningman, I wonder what made them choose a outdated case as the parent for the .270Win.?

WHO...thinks up this stuff...!?!
"If you run out of .30-06 and the zombies are closing in, you can just switch to .270Win."..."that's why .30-06 is a better gun".

^I am not saying that how the OP feels, but that is likely how the idea was planted. Of course that fails to take a little detail into consideration...why do you have .270Win. if you don't have a rifle chambered for it; and if you do, why not shoot it out of that instead?

:)

Totally agree Art....you would think that IF a person had elevated to the point of firing/using a firearm, the basic rule, of using the ammunition the particular firearm in question was designed for, would not even be a question!

But like you said, there are those.......

and with safety in mind.......

ehhh, been a day already....

.

hehehehehehehehe...that's too funny, Mav!

Mike, that's why .35Whelen is the best, you never know when you might come across a glowing pile of .338-06, .30-06, .280, .270, 6.5-06, .25-06, 6mm-06, .22-06, you're set (though .375-06 might be a problem). ;)

ooh, I have an idea....fin stabilized 270 projectiles...
for when your all out of ammo for that -06 and you just so happen to have a boat load of FS .270 SA ammo on hand......

I'll let you figure out the acronyms....

(though .375-06 might be a problem)

that's what the Glock hammer/pistol is for......
