What is the best caliber for a car gun? That is, a gun that may have to be used in self defense against a driver trying to run me off the road
In another life[tm]
Model 29, full house .44 Magnujm JSP loads my preference. Laynard Ring and yeah - it will get another vehicle "off you".
Understand I CCW-ed 1911s, BHPs, K frames and had a pump shotgun loaded with slugs in the trunk...well sometimes "maybe" not in the trunk, more "accessible".
Model 29s role was for the Professional Thugs using 'bump, shoot, rob' and similar 'techniques".
Low pressure rounds like .38spl and .44spl are "less noisy" when fired from within a vehicle as compared with .44 mag or .357. Note I have tested a number of firearms shooting out of - and into vehicles. Car jackings and such the lower pressure rds are great.
I had a reason for full house .44mag JSP loads, that was what I loaded up with.
I wanted a revolver, simply because in Close Quarters I did not want any part of a semi [i.e. slide in recoil] to be stopped by hitting steering wheel, seat, or who knows what all may [did] occur when matters get 'real friggin' interesting".
Yeah I train to use semi in close quarters, and do practice shooing out of vehicles.
There is something to be said for Model 29, laynard , full house .44 magnum JSP, and knowing from training you can shoot one weak
handed.
Tip: Even if one does not wear glasses. Or say at night and no sunglasses - some nice frames clear no 'scripted lenses, will protect one's eyes while driving and glass gets broken...stuff happens on the road. I know.
