There will be a great charity carbine match Saturday July 26 in Houston. The match will include 7 stages including CQB work, long range (100, 200, and 300 yd) targets, lots of moving and shooting on the run, a variety of shooting positions, two story "house clearing", and paper, steel, and "other" targets for a 200 to 300 round total. Bonuses include a stump shoot, door prizes including a handgun, and an AR-15 raffle, plus all proceeds go to a worthwhile charity. Can't beat this deal: burn powder, have major fun, and help orphans.

Get details and directions at www.tts-idpa.com.

For next year's match I'll engage my brain and post it earlier than the night before. Hope to see some of you there. I'll be the RO in the Molon Labe hat.

Wombat,

I was there yesterday. I was in Squad 2 wearing the "The Firing Line" t-shirt. You're right, it was a great match! In fact, it was the most challenging carbine competition I have attended. I think I fired around 280 rounds. Lots of CQB shots and a good number of long-range shooting to mix it up. I thoroughly enjoyed it as did my shooting partner, although I think he was pretty disappointed he didn't place in the top three. I actually placed ahead of him and enjoyed ribbing him a little because of that.

BTW, what is the background of the match winner (Guy)? He and his brother were both very good, but I was amazed that his overall score was basically 1/2 that of the second place score. I take it he competes quite often?

Rock Jock,

It was a great match.....a good mix of short and long range shooting.....

To many cabine (rifle) matches are at 30yrds and less.......I guess it is just me, but an AR is designed to shoot as distance (0-400yrds).......not enough people practice at different ranges....

As for the Iron and Optic winners....They (the brothers) shoot tactical 3-gun competition.

Take Care

Rock Jock and Helmut,

Glad you guys enjoyed the match. I thought it was great too [insert legal disclaimer on account of I made up some of the stages including the infamous "potato shots"]. Abe did a great job of putting it all together. There is talk of having another match in the fall or spring when the weather is cooler. Bigger and better - I'm ready!

The long range stuff was a challenge and I would like to do more of it. I suprised myself and actually made some 300 yd hits with bad eyes and no magnification. Glad I sighted in the day before or I don't think I would have had a chance at them.

Hope you guys can join us sometime at the WHIDPA monthly carbine match held the second Saturday of each month in Eagle Lake. Not as big as last week's match, but we have a good time and send plenty of rounds downrange. Post or drop me a message if you would like details and directions.

Wombat,

Yeah. Send me details on the Eagle Lake matches. I can't guarantee that I will make many, or even one as I live in Beaumont, but I will definitely try.

wombat.....

I have heard about the eagle lake shoots.....I wish I could make it, but I work on saturdays.....I had to take a vacation day just to shoot the Thunder match....

I wish I would find some matches on sunday......as I am off that day....
