I installed the Remington “competition” carrier that has the longer button into my 1100 to facilitate reloading.

I was told this was a “drop-in” part.
But it has not been.
I had to adjust the center tab and remove some length of the tab itself to properly latch up in the slot.
So now it seems to work fine in that respect.
The gun will shoot fast or slow but occasionally leave the last round still in the magazine tube with bolt locked back.
If I trip the carrier and then manually pull the bolt back it will feed the last round out of the magazine tube.
The other odd behavior is that if you manually cycle the bolt to feed/eject shells the bolt locks back each time. The carrier must be manually tripped from the button to feed the round and send the bolt to battery.
If I reinstall my original carrier and manually cycle the bolt to remove/eject shells it will always release/go to battery each and every time.
And with my original carrier I have never ever had a round left in the magazine tube with the bolt locked back while firing.
What am I missing here?
I hope someone can help me out.

Thanks.

Could be something is different in the engagement between the carrier and the latch. Might should have bent instead of shorten, but that is purely a guess because I am not there and you are. All my 1100s (five of them) and an 11-87 I did own will always lock to the rear, if you pull the operating handle back slowly and are still holding it when the shell releases from the magazine. If I pull it back hard and release instantly when it's to the rear I can get it to fully feed the next shell, but why would I want to? (I just learned this in 45 years of messing around) My buddy had one the would always release, and if I remember right he occassionally had failures to feed. I believe he took it to a 'smith and they replaced the latch, and no more problems.
But, I think the issue of the last round not feeding from the magazine is strictly related to the feed latch, not the carrier. If the round was releasing and then the bolt was staying to the rear then I would think it was a carrier latch issue, but the round is not releasing from the magazine, and that isn't the carrier, unless it isn't dropping down fast enough.

1100s are designed to lock back after each round. The new round feed releases the bolt again.

I have had the same problem with my 1100 - locked back with a round still in the tube. The best solution I have found is to figure out which ammo it likes. I think this is sometimes a timing issue related to the load's power. Mine likes Winchester Super Sports, 1 1/8, 3 1/4 dram loads and is unreliable with anything else.
