After I plan [arlo_guthrie]my es-cape[/arlo_guthrie], and get an AR-15, I think I rather carry AR-15 mags on a concealable magpouch instead of putting on the whole load-bearing system. For days when I have to have a buttload of mags (carbine class), I'm thinking about getting 2 of these pouches and 2 in the rifle = 6 mags

Will carrying cinched mags work in this type of pouch? Or will something go terribly wrong? Me haven't had the opportunity to play with AR-15 mags much :(

I'm thinking about getting 2 of these pouches and 2 in the rifle = 6 mags

I don't quite follow the math there?

but strapping empty AR15 mags down and putting a lot of pressure on them is not a good thing with some types mags.

I have heard good things about those Royal steel mags that have been selling lately

Having taken a carbine class long ago out at blackwater I can only offer this point of view. LBVs is good to go till you have to go prone then una$$ing mags isn't fast or easy, plus a few guys crushed a few empty mags while eating dirt in a hurry. Hip or side thigh carry, weak side seems to be a good rig and lots of three gun guys and swat fellas seem to use this method. I picked up a mag pouch carrier that was rigged for hip carry. Ran my class with it and it did it's job well, but it had three double mag pockets so while in a crouch a full mag fell out while putting a partial in, not good. So mags on the belt would work, but how well I don't know? My question would be would they restrict movment like bending to the side at the wast or stick in your pit while in a rice paddy crouch if being on the small side.
just things to think on.

Tried it in a Blade-tech Kydex holder with 2 magazines held by and Israeli-made clamp (at $5 a pop, they are very functional with 1 light wrap of 100mph tape). It wouldnt fit, and even if it could be made to, its so heavy it would tilt outward even on a GOOD belt cinched tight.

I generally dont prefer double magazines. They are heavy, and awkward to manipulate for anything past that initial reload. For military patrol, and a grab a go gun, they may have the advantage of an immediate reload, but not beyond the 1st load in the gun in my opinion. And I absolutely HATE what they do for the balance and swing of a rifle or carbine.

I use the Bladetech mag carriers too. They work VERY well and are extremely secure.

I have not tried to carry mags clamped together this way. It seems like you'd be giving up a great deal of concealment. I went with carrying two Bladetech carriers when I want more than one spare mag and keeping the double mags in the weapon. Under a suit coat or jacket, single mags just disappear.

Might have to give it a try though....just depends on what you wear.

Personally, I would only clamp two mags together if I planned on carrying no other gear at all. Heck, just one mag in an AR holds 28 rounds, and should solve most any problem outside of going into a war zone.

If I were to choose a product to cinch them together, Mag Cinch would be the first choice followed by First Samco (Fobus). Can't go wrong with the Blade Tech carrier.

For classes I use a dump pouch and CQB Subload pouch, both made by SOE, or the SOE dump pouch and the open top two mag carrier by 3-Gun Gear.

Just my .02.
