Case stuck in old rifle die, ideas?

I was given a set of Redding .25-06 dies this afternoon by a friend that found them in his (deceased) fathers gun cabinet. There is a case stuck in the sizing die and it looks like it's been there a while.

The rim is completely torn away, nothing to grab hold of.

Any ideas on this?

Send back to Redding probably the best way?

If you have a single stage like a Rock Chucker take any a long sheet metal screw that is small enough in diameter to fit through the center hole of any size shell holder and screw it into the flash hole of the casing leave a bout an inch of threads between the case and the shell holder so you have enough play to slip the shell holder into the ram, if it is still primed drill out the old primer. Run the ram all the way up and take the die with shell holder screwed into the flash hole and screw the die in until you can get the shell holder into the ram. Then just back the ram out and screw should pull the case free, if the screw strips out then send it to redding because it is really stuck.

Well, this is a suficently common occurance that RCBS sells a "Stuck Case Remover" to correct it. The remover isn't very expensive and everyone should have one anyway so why not get one for yourself? It uses a grade 5 - 1/4"x20 bolt, not a screw, to extract the case but the principle is much like what is described above.

Well, this is a suficently common occurance that RCBS sells a "Stuck Case Remover" to correct it. The remover isn't very expensive and everyone should have one anyway so why not get one for yourself?

All you need is a 1/4" tap, a drill bit and a bolt nut and washer. There's no need to wait on the RCBS unit to arrive

13/64" drill bit to drill out flash hole

1/4" Tap to tap the inside of the flash hole

1/2" Socket (1/4" drive) goes up against die and allows stuck case to be pulled into it

1/4" x 1 1/2" Washer on top of socket (keeps bolt from gouging the top of the socket)

1/4" x 1" Machine bolt goes into threaded flash hole and is turned to pull case out

If you need extra insurance, get the setup ready, leave the die in the feezer over night, then pull.

The shell-holder tears the rim off, but the primer pocket is still always there in the case web to drill & tap.

Take the locking nut off and put the die in the junk box. You nee a new die.

Yeah apparently all that had been tried by the previous owner. There is nothing left but about half the case up inside the die. I'm just gonna ship it back to Redding on Monday.

I fiddled around with it this afternoon but that sucker is up in there tight.

Some very good suggestions for a full stuck case though, I will keep those in mind. I've never had a stuck case so this is a new one, but those are great ideas.

It's been in there a long time too, I see white powder up in there from the reaction of the 2 metals.

We'll see what Redding does. It's probably not a big deal for them.

I've pulled several with the drill and tap method. Is surprizingly easy. Too bad it sat for so long.

The lube, if there was any, has dried out. You can use a tap, a big screw or a screw driver after spraying some penetrating oil in from the top.
