Caved and Bought First Lower

I'd been wanting an AR for a while but kept putting it off. Figured I'd wait until next summer when I graduate. I wanted a complete BCM build. Well, with the pending election and being blessed with work this summer, I decided I'd at least buy a stripped lower and pick up the parts over time, no rush. Friday night, I picked up a Spike's spider rollmark with bullet pictogram safety and gen2 PMAG for $95, shipped, from JoeBobOutfitters. Didn't figure I could beat the price.

Well you know how it is. I figured I'd wait to buy the LPK and stock assy but the itch got a bit of a scratch and now it's a gaping wound and needs my attention. Bought a BCM enhanced LPK and a BCM Gunfighter complete stock assy today, so those are on the way as well. I won't have an "honest to goodness" BCM lower, but it'll be as close as can be minus the rollmarks, and I saved over $100 from what the BCM lower would have cost me, and I got a PMAG thrown in there too.

I told my wife I'll wait a few months to buy my BCM upper but I don't know if I'll be able to wait past the end of September, at this rate...

Good start using a Spikes stripped lower, then completing it with BCM components. I did the same starting with a S&W M&P-15 stripped lower in 2008 and topping it with a Daniel Defense upper with 16" pencil midlength barrel. A couple years later I built a near twin starting with a Valkyrie (JD Machine) stripped lower and finished it with BCM components including a BCM upper. No matter how cool the rollmark, a BCM or DD stripped lower wouldn't improve the function of the builds.

Since then I have used PSA lower parts and uppers. I think a premium PSA upper (FN barrel) with a BCM BCG is a way to save $100 (maybe more depending on sale prices) yet still have BCM quality. The problem with PSA is varying quality, you have to watch their specs.

FN barrel + BCM BCG basically equals a BCM upper, kinda like your Spikes/BCM lower.
