Disclaimer: I am a CCI fanboy. CCI 100 round boxes are the only 22 ammo I would buy if it were more available. Standard Velocity and Sub-Sonic are my favorites.

The problem is that it's hard to find locally. The Sub-Sonic is never available at any retail store where I live. So it's either order online or wait for a gun show.

So let's check a possible alternative. Remington 100 round boxes are easily available, there are stacks of it at my local sporting goods store.

How do the cartridges compare?

Accuracy is similar but the reliability is not. I had one misfire from each of the first five rounds of Target and Subsonic. I expect a few misfires from bulk 22 ammo but this is Remington's "premium" 22 ammo, not the cheap Golden Bullet. I have never had a misfire with CCI 22.

I'm not buying any more Remington.

I've never tried either. I have tried the "bulk" Winchester and, though I've never had a misfire (with that, or any other rimfire ammo), I have had numerous failures of other types; the most common is failure-to-extract.
Of the CCI line, I've only shot MiniMags (thousands upon thousands) and Stingers (hundreds.) Never had a malfunction of any type with either. In semi-automatic firearms, I have given up on anything else. I wish I still had my .22 revolver; it's gonna take me eons to fire off all my bulk stuff with my Savage-Steven M89 single-shot..

Aguila subsonics have been the best I've used short of CCI. Give 'em a whirl.

I usually buy the CCI SV rrounds at Dicks when they have them. Maybe there is a Dicks Sporting Goods near you. I believe they are $28/brick now after a price increase from $25/brick this year. Haven't bought any in a while as I have a at least a case of them.

About the only 22 ammo I buy on line is stuff that nobody carries at a fair price. Some gunshops charge rather high prices for Wolf MT.

Remington subsonics have been a disappointment. Remington could do better.

I love CCI SV, shoots darn near as good as Wolf in my CZ and 10/22 LVTand equal to Aguila rifle match most of the time.

I like you love CCI. I am able to buy mine without much trouble at WalMart. They have the 300 brick and Mini Mags, Velocitors and the Quiet (never found them to be so). Sometimes they have Stingers. If not, I just go to the local gun store/pawn shop and pay a buck or two more. Try to work from your own built supply/stock and pick up boxes/sleeves when you see them. Then your never disappointed.

I am 60 and most guys who have been shooting for a good number of years will tell you that Remington ammunition is just about the worst stuff out there. Shotshell, pistol or rifle. They should give up their entire ammo line and put the money into firearms production and go back to making fine rifles and shotguns like they used to. Their rimfire is so bad that if they had it made in Taiwan it would probably be much better. Yes, it's really that bad. Best bang for the dollar in rimfire ammo is Federal.

I try not to buy Remington rimfire, but occasionally do buy Thunderbolts when they are dirt cheap. They won't win any accuracy contests, but do ok for plinking in most of my guns....CCI SV is tough to beat for as a budget accurate round. I buy it by the case from Target Sports USA for $2.69 per 50 box....shipped free.

Anybody miss the smell of old time 22's? This modern stuff just doesn't smell like 22's should smell...

Was out shooting with my 85 year old father a couple weeks ago. He brought the ammo he has kept since the 60s with him, and it was a trip down memory lane.

Back on topic... I find the Federal bulk pack to be the most reliable and easy to find. Other than that, I like the CCI, it doesn't misfire for me... at least the stuff in the slide top box. The stuff in the bulk pack *sometimes* misfires.

Everybody likes to slam the Remington Golden bulk but my wife's Mosquito dines on them and we get very few misfires.

Federal bulk and Federal Auto Match turn her Mozzie into a single shot though my 22/45 and 10/22 love the stuff. The Auto Match especially is some pretty accurate stuff in the 10/22.

The Remington .22 Target is another favorite but supply is hit & miss in my area.

MiniMag 40gr solid is the benchmark. If a semiauto .22 won't run with them the gun has a problem.

The new "AR-22" bulk packs of CCI work well in my Kimber .22lr and my rifles.

The only 22 ammo I notice a big time accuracy difference with are stingers. I shoot way more accurately with that hot round. My guns will eat anything.

I have given up on anything Remington in 22...except maybe yellowjackets or viper. I have had great luck with Federal 525 bulk.
As a side note...what is with availability lately. Natchez and Midway are both out of most CCI stuff. Is there a run on ammo pre election....

My .22's have a definite preference for CCI and Wolf ammo. Federal and Winchester get the nod in terms of bulk packs. I have experienced far too many problems and dismal accuracy results with Remington rimfire ammo for me to even consider buying it.
