Went to a county shooting range on July 4 and had some fun making lots of noise. During my half-day of shooting pistols and rifles, I did an experiment

I did a side-by-side comparison with a Ruger 77/22 using CCI Stingers vs. the Velociters (sp?). I am sighted in with the Stingers at a half inch high at 50 yards. I shot a 10-shot, one-inch group on a Shoot-N-See target using a plastic shooting box with a leather glove on top for a rest. The heavier 40-grain Velociters were just over an inch lower at 50 yards with a 1.5 inch group. I'm sticking with the Stingers. My rifle loves them.

The Stingers seemed to have more zip going out the barrel and down a concrete safety tube on the way to the targets.

The next experiment will be on groundhogs or feral cats to determine on-game effectiveness.

Of course, not all rifles shoot Stingers well due to the longer case. They can be harder to chamber in some bolt actions. Some match barrel makers advise against using Stingers. That said, Stingers will perform very well out of rifles that like them. They do the job and then some.

I've had better luck with the Velocitors out of my 6" Beretta Neos pistol and my Savage Mark II rifle. The Velocitors group tighter in both guns that the Stingers.

I've dealt with 2 woodchucks using Velocitors in my Neos, both with shots to the grape, so they will perform.

Had my rifle a while

You are exactly right, the Stingers were difficult to chamber at first. However, I have had the rifle since I was 15, I'm 31 now. I've shot Stingers for several years, and now they chamber fine. I think the chamber has been reamed to allow for the longer case, and they fit perfectly now. Accuracy has gotten better the more Stingers I shoot. At first, they didn't group all that great.

I really enjoy the 77/22. My dad bought it for me as a Christmas gift, so it has even more meaning. He traded in a Marlin semi-auto .22, and I'm glad because the bolt gun made me a better shot all those years hunting rabbits in Minnesota during Christmas break when in school.

I really enjoy shooting the Velociters out of my Buckmark. They have enough recoil to make it feel like a centerfire handgun.
However, I shot full soda cans w/ the velociters using both the Buckmark and my ruger 77/22 and they never expanded. All other rimfire hollowpoints I had on hand did so dramatically. I guess the Velociters need a bit more resistance from the target. I'm taking this to mean that they wouldn't be a good choice for very small varmints like squirrels or crows.

I shot the Velocitors today out of my brand new NEOS 4.5" .
We didn't do grouping because I was breaking in a 'newbie shooter' !
He really liked everything we did today and especially liked the NEOS, which functioned 100% with the new ammo.

I had some Stingers but didn't get them out today.
You've given me a new mission to try with the NEOS.

Stingers seem to be more available around here.
I have used both Stingers & Velocitors with my P22, with good results at 50 ft. The Stingers have the edge with visual effects, muzzle flash!
