Been thinking about getting one of these--or any alloy-framed CCO. (Never should have sold my Springer Ltwt Compact.) Anyone have any first-hand experience or informed input?

Sig RCS
Pros:
Quality parts
No front serrations

Cons:
Unknown reliability
Model names change daily; hard to figure out which is which

Smith and Wesson Compact ES
Pros:
Reported excellent reliability for S&W 1911s

Cons:
Front serrations
Less "polished" than others

Dan Wesson CCO Bobtail
Pros:
Reported excellent workmanship

Cons:
Redefines vaporware

Kimber CDP II Compact
Pros:
Least vaporware-ish of the bunch, though still hard to find
Not a bad-looking pistol

Cons:
Series II
Not really CCO dimensions

Dan Wesson CCO Bobtail
Pros:
Reported excellent workmanship

Cons:
Redefines vaporware

I believe the CCO has already hit the shelves, they're just getting snatched up.

I have a Sig C3, same as the RCS just without the melt treatment. I love that gun, shoot it as well as my full size 1911's, just with a bit more recoil. I got mine cheap, and with the build quality of the gun I'd not hesitate to call it a steal.

I have a couple Fusions, they're very high quality pistols for a pretty good custom 1911 price. It would take a few months to get one built, but consider them as an option as well. Both of mine are full size, one longslide ... but they do a CCO type configuration.

Thanks. I'm leaning toward the Compact ES, as I hear nothing but good things about the out-of-the-box reliability of S&W's 1911s. I don't really have the time or patience anymore to play games to get a pistol to run.

That being said, I did check out Fusion. Their 1911s seem nice even though their Web site is an abomination. :) Sent them an email for a quote.

Did your Sig give you any issues out of the box?

I also have a Sig C3 and love it. After 100 rounds it has been completely reliable and is very accurate. Having said that, I recently discovered mine was in a batch of early Compacts that appear to have a poorly machined barrel causing unusual wear to the bushing and the barrel lug. Sig promptly emailed me a shipping label and their customer service has the reputation for being top notch.

You might also take a look at a Baer Stinger if you want to put that much into one. I got mine used. It is all-steel and oozes quality. Can't wait to see (and maybe buy) the Dan Wesson CCO.

I have yet to see a new production Dan Wesson CCO anywhere. They can't even keep CBOBs on the shelf for more than a day....People are selling them used today for more than they paid back in the day.

I would recommend looking for a Colt. They are real and they are available if you are patient.

I like mine. There are also these which will cost as much as some custom guns:

The DW CCO's are indeed out (I know two people who have them), but you have to be basically standing at your dealers counter when they receive them and take them out of the box to have a chance at actually getting one. The DW secret is out and they are very hard to find just sitting around these days.
I just ordered a custom CCO from Fusion this morning in an effort to get what I want, exactly how I want it. Can't go wrong with either of these two.
A good friend of mine owns a SIG C3 and loves it. He's had no problems with it that he's told me about.
Good luck!
