I have starting casting some 230 gr. bullets in 300 BO. For the time being these will be lubed only. I have a good load with MBC 245 gr. coated bullet, using R-7. My cast are not as hard as MBC's Bhn 20, not that that should matter at low pressures the sub loads run at. But there doesn't seem to be much load data out there for R-7. And if I venture into other bullets, I'd like a powder more supported with data.
Anyone who has used CFE-BLK in sub loads, what has been your impression of the powder? Is it a comparable powder to say AA1680? Which I have not seen on the shelves in my area. I'm curious if the CFE is a worthwhile powder.
This is being shot out of a AR pistol, 8.5" barrel, with no can attached.

CFE Black is a decent powder. Rumor has it that it's H110 with different coatings. It really shines with the heavier bullets.

I started with 1680 out of my 10” suppressed .300 Blackout and didn’t go any further. So far with 208 gr BTHP and now the new 190 gr Hornady Sub -X that powder is the best for me so far. Tried Lil Gun, H110 and 1680 but not the CFE Blk.

Here’s how the 190’s grouped for me a couple of weeks ago.

The 190 gr. looks really good. Not that the 208 gr. looks bad. :D
I haven't found anyone locally that carries a serious supply of Western Powder in good times. And my reloading supplies are too full to justify any online order.
In normal times I see CFE BLK, IMR4198, and Reloder-7 all the time. I have 300 MP, but one article I read said it wasn't reliable on locking the bolt back on the last shot with sub loads. I will have to see if I can find that article again.

I used RL7 with 190's and could not find a sub load that actually locked the bolt back. I tried everything I could think of, from adjusting the gas block, lightening the buffer, and changing the spring, all to no avail. I tried out CFE BLK and have had no issues whatsoever. I like it so far and will keep working with it. 8.5" barrel with OSS suppressor.

11.6 grains of CFEBLK behind a 208 Hornady BTHP (oal 2.250) goes 1099 FPS in a 16 inch upper. Also cycles my 7.5 barrel pistol without a suppressor.
