Does keeping a Bulgarian Makarov's chamber open damage anything? My buddy stores his Makarov with a plastic chamber plug in place, it holds the chamber slightly open and the hammer in the cocked position. It looks like this might stress the mainspring, but I'm no expert.

It won't harm it in the least.

Many pistols are shipped from the factory with a chamber flag holding the gun out of battery.

Doesn't do anything bad to it at all, like it was said earlier many guns are shipped/stored/sold that way. Some even STILL have too much spring stiffness and have to be shot through a few boxes of ammo or locked open for a day or two!

Springs don't get tired, they aren't alive

Storing your magazines loaded won't make them sleepy
Storing with hammer back won't wear out the mainspring
Storing with the slide open won't make the recoil assembly old and creaky

I have to ask what purpose is served by storing it with a chamber flag in place?

Probably wouldn't be the first time. :)

I didn't realize the Mak's safety was also a decocker until I finally found one to handle about a year ago. I still want one, just not quite as much...
