Ok....to get away from the hundreds of Gun Banning Threads, I wanted to see if things are fact or fiction.

1. Saw this on the TV show. If you shoot the headlights out of a car, it will set off the air bag system, disabling the vehicle.

2. Using reloads in a self defense shooting will cost you a lawsuit. I have no knowledge of litigation concerning this.

3. From a nam vet...If you shoot someone with an M16 in the arm, the bullet will tumble around and come out his toe.

4. People shot with a handgun will fly backwards in the air from the energy produced.

5. Putting an X on the tip of a bullet makes it expand violently.

6. With a .50 cal, if you can see it, you can shoot it regardless of range.

7. From CNN- You can shoot 100 rounds in a minute in an AR, therefore they are Weapons of Mass Destruction.

What say ye? Any more fact/ Fiction you can think of?

TRUE, but only works on cars not trucks.
2. Using reloads in a self defense shooting will cost you a lawsuit. I have no knowledge of litigation concerning this.
TRUE, any act of self defense will get you the same.
3. From a nam vet...If you shoot someone with an M16 in the arm, the bullet will tumble around and come out his toe.
TRUE, and if you shoot in the toe it will come out the nose
4. People shot with a handgun will fly backwards in the air from the energy produced.
TRUE, as the person who shoots is thrown backwards as well
5. Putting an X on the tip of a bullet makes it expand violently.
TRUE, it will fly apart as it leaves the barrel
6. With a .50 cal, if you can see it, you can shoot it regardless of range.
TRUE, I shot the moon with my barrett and the spotting scope proved it
7. From CNN- You can shoot 100 rounds in a minute in an AR, therefore they are Weapons of Mass Destruction.
TRUE, because CNN is a weapon of mass distraction

What say ye? Any more fact/ Fiction you can think of?

I don't know if some cars do have airbag sensors that are somehow tied to the headlights, but I doubt it. I always believed these were inertial sensors or crush sensors of some sort and wouldn't be affected by a gunshot. But I guess it could happen. Need more info.

OMG! We've pounded this one many times. From just a few days ago: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=693885

3. From a nam vet...If you shoot someone with an M16 in the arm, the bullet will tumble around and come out his toe.
Not exactly. There are good threads on this too. The 5.56mm projectile, at certain weights and in certain twist barrels, did indeed tumble and fragment when it was slowed by entering a semi-fluid medium, like a person. The terminal effects were much greater than a simple through-and-through poke of .224". But "out the toe," is of course, dumb hyperbole.

4. People shot with a handgun will fly backwards in the air from the energy produced.
Utterly wrong, as basic physics would show even the most casual observer. Or just watch military or police incident footage. NO ONE, hit by ANY non-explosive bullet is thrown back through the air.

5. Putting an X on the tip of a bullet makes it expand violently.
Comes from a pretty questionable practice supposedly used by various soldiers through the ages to improve performance of jacketed or round-nose ammo. But see here: http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot32.htm

6. With a .50 cal, if you can see it, you can shoot it regardless of range.
If you can see it, and it's within a couple thousand yards, and you are EXTREMELY skilled, trained, and practiced at long range shooting, yup, you probably could hit it. The average person picking up a Barrett M82? Nope. No more than s/he could hit any deer they could see out to 1,000 yards with a .270 Winchester. Long range precision shooting is a discipline that takes a lot of skill and intense effort.

7. From CNN- You can shoot 100 rounds in a minute in an AR, therefore they are Weapons of Mass Destruction.
COULD YOU? Sure. Actually, you could theoretically probably about double that if you built up your stamina and had a really large magazine. Now, transitioning between moving, feeling targets and actually killing things or people? No. There are practical, call it "logistical," barriers. But yeah, you could make the gun go bang that many times.

Weapon of Mass Destruction? LOL! Only if your measure of "mass destruction" is REALLY, REALLY small. Kind of like saying that someone with a roll of quarters is "wealthy." Or a Chevette is a "racecar."

Airbag sensors are accelerometers, most made by Analog Devices.

They detect the rapid deceleration of the vehicle, originally only fore and aft.
