I played with one of my CM1500’s today, using IMR3031, thought some might be interested.

Set on 20.0 grains, as it came from the factory and threw 10 charges. The scale confirms it hit the target with the arrow and beep, then I weighed the charges on my A&D balance.

They were:

20.12
20.10
20.12
20.14
20.12
20.18
20.06
20.12

I then inserted a bushing into the end, turned .312 OD/.194 ID and threw 10 more.

I think that’s why my auto tricklers with photoelectric switch work as well as they do, they just can’t dump as much as fast.

I really wish they would publish information on what all of the parameters control and limits of values. Most of the “tunes” I have come across just make things worse. At best they might improve accuracy but then make it over shoot all the time or take forever to complete the charge.

I've played with the parameters on mine. The only ones I change are where the unit changes speed. Depending on charge I normally have mine drop to the slow/trickle speed about 1-2 gr from target weight. I have a brass tube in my drop tube that goes full length. I only have the opening for picking up powder reduced to around 3/16" so it will not fully pack the tube. This stretches out the powder distribution.

What thread was the end of the drop tube?

I don’t think it’s threaded, just a tool mark (on purpose) inside.

I may make one for my Hornady Auto Charge. It works pretty well until I use something like AA9 or True Blue. That stuff is really dense and travels fast through the tube.
Thanks JM, that's what I needed to see, that will get me started.

I went a slightly different route. I used a piece of 5/16" brass tubing for the full length of the tube. This way I could restrict how much powder would fill the tube. I pressed in some smaller tubing to make it smaller.

For the speed advantage against practical effect of powder precision . . .

I'll keep the speed.
