Thank you and welcome Mr. K

I don't currently own a CD firearm but I work for a large firearms retailer in Maine. I am some impressed that a person of your stature in the firearms community would take the time to join a forum and communicate with your customers.

Had a cd 1911 6 or so years ago. Left it in the trunk of my car overnight and by morning it had rust on it. Would drive tacks at 75 yards though. Better than the springfield I had after selling it. Got rid of that faster than the cd.

I have a CD HP that is my daily carry piece (FL CCW holder). It's never given me a single problem, is accurate and I shoot it well. Hard to ask for more than that. I have about 700rnds through it so far as the bulk of my practice is done with a .22lr. Despite the commander style hammer I get a bit of "bite" when I shoot- I have big paws. Doesn't keep me from shooting it well, just one of those things. Love the "post and ball" sights. My only question is, will it take the .22 conversion kit sold for the HP? I also just bought a CD shotgun for my brother as a gift.

What would I like to see from Charles Daly next? Hmmm, now that CD is doing AR's- maybe reasonably priced uppers in other than 5.56 caliber. I'd love a .45 or 9mm upper that doesn't cost what the original rifle did.

An EMS 1911 commander with an integral rail. Please? (extra cookies if you can make it in stainless)

John

I don't personally own a Charles Daly firearm yet, however, this thread has drawn my attention and Charles Daly just happens to offer a product that will fill a rather painful gap in my collection.. I don't have a pump gun, but the Field Tactical AW has my interest.

However, I surely would like a Field Tactical in black chrome with the adjustable sights. Is there such an option, or could there be such an option? My wallet accepts the price tag of such, and so do I.

WinchesterAA, the only Tactical in our lineup with adjustable sights right now is the AW model. The black chrome Tactical is only available with a ramp front sight, in order to keep the price down and competitive.

However, I can tell you that in another 2 months we will have a new Tactical to add to the line. We will continue to offer the basic model for those who just want that simplicity, but the new one will come with a pistol grip buttstock (a la Benelli M4), ghost ring sights and a picatinny top rail along with a redesigned forearm. It will sell for somewhat more than the basic, but will be extremely competitive when compared to other brands with similar features. If you can wait that long this will be the pump for you!

What is the average turn around on a gun repair.

Provided the the consumer can identify an issue are you willing to ship the part to repair the gun rather than shipping the firearm both ways?

Athanasius, the average turn around on a repair is 2-3 weeks.

Depending on the issue, we are willing to send parts. However, more often than not we would prefer to get the entire gun back to make sure we get it right. We do pay the cost of freight in both directions though. If you ever do need to send it back we will issue a call tag and have either FedEx or UPS pick up the gun.

Nah, not quite.. The AW fits the bill, although I'm not a fan of shiney, but a pump gun with adjustable sights is something I've wanted a good while. I have no use for rails on a shotgun, and the pistol grip doesn't do much for me either, except snag everything it encounters. I do believe I will purchase the Tactical AW, however I have not seen any local stores that carry any charles daly products.

The plainness of it with the favorable exception being the sights is exactly what I'm looking for. The price just so happens to be entirely reasonable as well.

I have one question, though.. Is the same amount of quality found in these shotguns a universal trait for the rest of your products? Barring the factory defect that makes it past QC, would it be unreasonable to judge the rest of your lineup based on any firearm I were to purchase from CD?

Those were made by Marlin - you're thinking of the Ruger PC4 (9mm & .40 S&W) - and yes, I agree it would be great to have them or something similar on the market again...

yup yup, my bad.........the Marlins Camp carbines were the ones I was thinking of.

Charles Daly,
I loved the fact that the cd high powers at one time came stock with xs sights. Forgive me as they may still do, i would love a CD HP with a set of xs sights. Is the CD HP made anymore? i don't see it on the website. If i could find either one of the above at a gunshop they would definetly be comming home with me, especially the hp.

Thanks

My experience with CD is limited but I have been very happy with the one CD product I own.

I had an older Colt 22 Conversion Unit for the 1911 that I wanted to build into a complete gun. The Daly 1911 comes with a trigger that resembles that found on the Colt Gold Cup so I thought the unit would look good on a Daly lower, almost like a 22 Gold Cup model.

I bought a complete Daly lower from a dealer on GunBroker and not only did the unit mount like it was fitted just for that frame, but it performs much better than it ever did on any Colt lower that I tried. I found the quality of the 1911 lower to be excellent and I am very happy with the finished product.

I appreciate the fact that management took the time and effort to post this thread for feedback. I would not hesitate to purchase a CD product in the future.

By the way, here's the finished gun. Maybe CD should consider building a 1911 in 22 caliber?

...but aren't the CD shotgun frames made by Zoli?

CD shotguns were manufactured in Italy for us from 1997 to 2006 in a factory named Sabatti (current manufacturer of Remington Premier shotguns).

Sabatti is a cousin of Zoli. Each manufactures different parts for themselves and the other one. They are very close in shotgun design and production. But at the end of the day, Sabatti gets credit for the Italian Daly's.

I would like to echo the call for a CD 1911 in 9mm and in .22lr. You can't swing a dead cat in a gunstore without hitting a half-dozen 1911's in .45ACP in all price ranges, but there's a paucity of value-priced 1911's in 9mm and in .22lr. If CD can offer a bare-bones value model for under $400 (esp. in Commander or Officer sizes), you'd really carve a big chunk of the market (esp. in my choices).... :D

I didn't get a response the the other road so i'm reposting here.

First, I'd like to thank Mr. Kassnar for the amazing effort he has put into this thread.

Yesterday I purchased a used CD semi-auto shotgun. On the website, it looks like the VR-MC feild hunter. I really like the fit and feel on me. I took it out and shot it last night to see how it worked before the sun when down. First thing i noticed is this thing is a trick to load. I think it was mostly me, but the slide release had a very hard time releasing the cover to the magazine. It would normally open and let one or two rounds slide in, then it would click shut and i wouldn't be able to get it to move again. Pushing that button seems really unnecessary as a safety feature.

More important than me learning how to load it, it jammed on the last round. The round would not come all the way out of the magazine tube and would wedge against the plate that lifts it into position. It did this about 6 of 7 or 7 of 8 times. It also did it only on the last round, the others fed perfectly. The one time it didn't do it was when i completely loaded the gun and then fired it rapidly. Could this be a weak spring in the tube? I read some of this thread, but i don't know if this is a common/simple fix.

Also, the gun will get a thurough cleaning today and i'll do what i can to "polish" the area where the round jams to see if i can't help that out. I may get a chance to shoot it again this weekend after i have cleaned and lubed it. - edit: have shot it since and it still wouldn't feed the last round out of the tube, so i just kept it loaded so i never got to the last round and it ran fine.

I honestly can't say I'm disapointed in the gun yet. It did shoot very accurately. I busted some mini-clays with it. Then my buddy knocked the center out of a mini-clay and threw just the center(little smaller than a quarter) and i hit that. Also did the trick where you set the clay on the forearm and flick it up and shoot it. Very fun. And of course we did this is the safest way possible. Oh, in the mean time i give this new purchase a :D

Thank You

Sir,

Although I'm not familiar with your products, your posting certainly makes me want to find out more. In my line of work my weapon NEEDS to function properly, and part of a properly functioning firearm is the support "behind the scenes" with respect to addressing immediate repairs, replacements, fair pricing, and so on.

On behalf of ALL of us, thank your for your candor and willingness to step into the fire a bit.
It's rare these days in any area of the retail sector. I can't think of any other area of business where you HAVE to stand behind your name like you do with firearms. Keep up the good work, and welcome to the forum.

To Charles Daly:

I must say seeing this thread just made me check out your web page. The products look great and I'm certainly more interested in your product lines.

You might want to fix the entry on the M-5 pistol web page around the bottom of the page (ETA).

Pump action AK, straight pull bolt AK and .22LR AK's

The PAR series Romanians were ban era rifles.

Currently even Europeans can get straight pull AK rifles

And .22LR AK's are just plain fun.

I would love to see importing of Huglu shotguns. They have many very very nice doubles which would really give the Italians a run for their money. They are also clearly begging for an importer:
http://www.huglushotguns.com/ordering.html

And if someone somewhere makes an Auto-5 clone, I would like to see that imported.

That and some new, cheap SKS's from the Soviet Bloc would make me very happy, not to mention thousands and thousands of other customers.

I realize the AR market may appear crowded, but we actually think that there will not be enough of these guns available during this election year and perhaps during the first 6 months after the election.

Mr. Kassnar sure nailed that one, huh?
