Charles Daly Wants to Hear From You!

Mr Kassnar,

First of all I would like to thank you very much for your time. Do you think that changing out the recoil spring to a 16 or 17 pound will work or do I need a different one and is a Wilson clip a good one for the Charles Daly or can you reccommend another one that works good with the charles Daly 1911 45,

Again thank all of Ya'll for you info and time. I really like this sight it has been very helpful already. It has been hard trying to find one that I can talk to people about this issue and they know what I am talking about.

Some guns don't feed some ammo reliably
not all HP's will work well in all 1911s

It is my understanding that the 1911 was designed for FMJ. I have several 1911's and some are just finicky about certain hollow point rounds. My CD will eat FMJ and Federal Hydra-Shoks all day long, but has a serious dislike of Hornady XTP's. I would try some different HP's and see if it makes a difference. I have thought about selling my CD to make room for some different guns, but I havn't been able to bring myself to do it. It shoots very well and mostly I shoot FMJ anyway (FMJ is a fine defense round IMO). I think it is probably the best entry level 1911's on the market.

Some folks told me to try I think they was called wilson does that sound right?

Wilson Combat Mags...+1:D

Then dump that POS Daly 1911. Look at Kimber for great AMERICAN made 1911s.

That tickled my funnybone. My Kimber Ulta Covert is one of the best pistols I have ever shot, but there no end to the amount of crap I receive from some people about it. Kimber is one of the most Loved/Hated pistols on the market. Mainly for having alot of the same problems Wildcats was having. It's just a 1911 thing.

Well, when you want rock bottom prices, you generally have to expect rock bottom performance and quality.

Kimber is one of the most Loved/Hated pistols on the market.

The word is Kimber put out some bad mags, so an after market one like a Wilson cleared up a LOT of problems people were having.

ANY modern 1911 should cycle a variety of hollow points just fine. Heck, my Kimber will reliably hand cycle EMPTY brass as fast as I can rack it all day long. Quite the "hollow point" with NO curved or tapered bullet of ANY kind to guide it up the feed ramp and into the chamber!

Hello, and thanks for giving me the opportunity to speak with you first hand. I don't have any CD products, nor do I know much about them. Haven't read most of this thread, but if you'd like to hear my wish list and thoughts, I'll let ya have them. For free.

I would love for somebody to build a clone of the Springfield 03 & the 03A3 actions. I'd love to build a modern sporter on a new 03 action and not have to worry about cutting up an old rifle, or worrying about the old steel giving up the ghost. It'd be great if this action were forged. Crazy enough, I love the old 03 sporters. I'd love to have a new milspec clone of the 03A3 with a C stock. Then I could shoot it all I want.

As far a 1911s go, one chambered for 22 LR would be great! Don't care two fiqs for one in 9mm- unless you were to shrink-wrap the 1911 frame around the cartridge. The 1911 is just right for the 45 ACP, but too big for the 9mm. If you did shrink wrap it around the 9mm, I'd give it serious consideration.

Thanks for listening, even if my ideas are crazy. Shore would like a new 03A3 clone, though....

Have A Charles Daly

Hello Mr. Kassnar,

I own a Charles Daly 1911 A1 EFS stainless in .45acp.I've had it for 7 years
now,and it shoots as well ,or better than my Springfield 1911 TRP pistol !

It is probably the most accurate .45acp auto I own,and I own many.I have friends with the same weapon, and I notice from gun to gun,the quality varies
greatly. I would say mine shoots better than the 5 other people I know, who
own them also.

The only two problems I see with mine,is the finish is not holding up,and this is rare for a stainless pistol. It really appears to be satin nickel, rather than stainless. The other feature,is the magazines are cheap ! Sorry, but you
wanted the truth. I bought some Chip McCormick mags for mine, and it shoots
just like the $1500 1911 pistols out there !

My friends apparently are too cheap to buy a couple of quality magazines,so,I have to listen to them complain about their Charles Dalys.
Other than the finish,I have no real complaint about mine.

Most people I talk to don't buy them, because of simple little stories they have heard, like the one I just told you. Also,it's name recognition. If it doesn't say Colt,Kimber, Springfield,Sig,S&W,some are just not going to but it.

Your company has changed names many times, and that scares people off.I bought a 9mm Kassnar Hi Power many years ago for my father. He showed it to many of his friends, and many of them bought them. However, before he ,and I could spread the word, the name changed to FEG,and that scared many people off.

Also, the word is,you import the weapon, and don't actually make it,and that is another scare off.If it were me,I'd put quality mags in the weapons, which would stop most of the jam problems, and advertise that you are an American
company,in America.

That is why Sig,and Glock, both moved from Europe, and built factories in the US.After that, sales sky rocketed.Another company had the same problem in the 80's,as I use to be an FFL.The company was Grendel, owned by George
Kellgren. He just couldn't get off the ground, even though he made some nice weapons, with a few bugs to work out.He is now the owner of Kel Tec CNC
firearms, which are very popular now.I met George at the Shot Show back in 1990,and told him the problems I was having in selling his pistols, and the few little bugs he needed to get out of them, and go American.

I still try to push the Charles Dalys to my friends,as I know they have great potential, with just a few minor changes, like the quality magazines. If you make a great handgun, and put cheap magazines, and springs in the weapon, then the weapon is no better than the magazines !

I hope this helps you out some.I would be happy to talk with you more,if you desire. In the mid 90's I bought a Glock look a like pistol from Croatia.I knew it was a good weapon, but,I couldn't give one away ! Along comes
Springfield Armory a few years later, buys the Croation company, and pistol design, and now it sells as the Springfield XD ,and is catching up to Glock sales !
A merger with a known,American company,or perhaps, buying a known American company Name, who is in financial straits, would solve your problem, with a few minor changes {via} magazine change ? Just a thought to ponder.

The XD which use to be the Croatia 2000,would never have made it,if it had not taken on the Springfield Armory name !
Drop a line,if you want to talk. Best of luck, Clint, aka Doc

In all my years here, as a mod and as a member by FAR this is the coolest thread EVER.

Honestly, kudos to Mr. Kassnar.

I have a KBI FEG PJK9HP and liked it so much I wanted to buy a Daly Hi-Power, even if I didn't need it. I recommended a LOT of Daly hi-powers to friends and members here. Good to see an industry 'insider; taking a hard look at what the 'gun public' wants.

I am definitely going to subscribe to this thread, and consider Daly products in the future.

Just a minor nit ...

A few CT folks who have been trying to order standard capacity (30 rd) mags from CD have been denied. FYI, there is NO standard capacity magazine ban in CT. Please take a closer look at this store policy?

Thanks!

Michael,

I came across two ECS 1911's at a dealer last weekend.. they both seemed to have the same problem:

http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=420885

I sent an email to the address associated with your account on the 17th and offered to supply information regarding the dealer who was selling them, but have not received a response.

Is this something you intend to remedy prior to the pistols reaching an end-user, or would you rather have the dealer sell them and risk the farm?

Steve

On the 17th. Mr. Kassnar was at the SHOT Show in Florida, and perhaps involved in more serious issues then two .45 pistols. It is also likely that given the circumstances he was unaware of your e-mail. Give him a little time to unwind and review his mail, and I'm sure a reply will be forthcoming.

Mr Kassnar is a great guy!!!

I met him at the SHOT show. I explained that I was just an individual customer, but I had an idea that I wanted to share with him. He gave me ten minutes of his time while guys who were there to place orders waited. I was very impressed.

I asked Mr Kassnar for a series of pistol-caliber carbines, say one in 9mm and one in .45, that would be compatible with a variety of pistol magazines. If the carbine used a series of detachable "blocks" that adapted it to use magazines from different pistols, then one .45 carbine would work with 1911s, Ruger P-90s, and so on. Same-same for the 9mm version. It would also be slicker than eel snot if the carbine could use the same stocks and grips as an AR-15!

For what it's worth, I have a CD 1911, and since stuffing a quality magazine in it, it's been absolutely flawless. It's more accurate than I am.

Steve, Your email may have ended up in my Spam folder as I never saw it. I'm not sure what you want me to do here but if you will PM me I will look into it.

I wish I knew you guys had a life-time repair policy, I had a Charles Daly High Power, the thing after a while (and I do properly disassemble and clean all my firearms after use) jammed so badly I ended up selling it to someone for $199.99, they turned around and sold it for $299.99

Very impressive to see you here.

Bodes very well for the Charles Daly brand.

Keep up the good work.

Mr. Kassnar: I'm glad to hear that you'll be importing the Jericho series of pistols. I'm a fan of the type, and I never got to own one before they stopped being imported.

Are these new manufacture or restored military surplus? Are their magazines compatable with the EAA Witness pistols or the original CZ design?

Many thanks...

I have a BUL DDA 10 45 and I need parts but I cant find an outlet. Can you tell me where to locate them. a gunsmith has it now and said
I need all the springs. if ther is a kit tell me how to order one Thank you E-mail me [email protected]

I am impressed with your effort and applaud you for it. I work in a service oriented business and I know how hard, yet how important it is to reach out to your customer... even when, or maybe especially when you might get blasted.

I have not bought a charles daly firearm yet. However, due to your willingness to post this thread and honestly respond, I will certainly consider it for my next purchase. I will be looking for a 44 mag revolver and a levergun to match. Perhaps you have a suggestion.

Also I noticed earlier that you said CD would not be selling another bolt action anytimme soon, but I would like to suggest something:

*Offer a bolt action in 3 calibers. 5.56x45, 7.62x51, 7.62x39.
*Durability is the key. Choose the action appropriately, such as mauser
*Military style aperature sights (ala M1 Garand/M14/M1a), with options for mounting a scope.
*Consider magazine fed, best if mags that are already in use, m16, M1a, ak47, etc...

This is what some (and me too!) would refer to as a "practical rifle".
This would allow shooters to stock one type of ammo, mags, etc... and have two effective weapons, one main weapon and a back up bolt action.

Would love to hear your comments.

Once again I commend you and your openess to hold this discussion. It convinces me to at leeast examine CD offerings for my next purchase.

John

Dear Mr. Kassnar,

I do not currently own a Charles Daly firearm, but I do purchase two or three per year. I can tell you that as a member of this forum and several other firearm forums, I have never seen this kind of proactive and personal approach to customer service. For this reason, I will make it a point to make a new Charles Daly 1911 my next handgun purchase.

Thank you for your very hands-on efforts for customer service.

These pistols are brand new IWI manufacture (Israel Weapons Industries, Ltd., successor to IMI).

I believe that EAA Witness magazines should be interchangeable.
