My son likes to cook so I made him some kitchen knives for a Christmas present. I also made him a sharpener that uses wet&dry sandpaper so he can keep the bevel angles accurate and the knives sharp. The handles are made out of cherry and the blade steel is 15n20 which makes great chef knives.

Cool knives. Really cool sharpener. Reminds me of an Edge Pro with all the inconvenient bells and whistles out of the way, that uses abrasives that are actually easy and inexpensive to get! Looks really good!

Happy New Year everyone and thanks for the nice comments. I spent around 20 dollars to make this inexpensive and easy to make sharpener. It will sharpen knives just as well as the expensive ones like the Edge pro. Ninety-nine percent of these styles of knife sharpeners are designed so the knife edge is facing you while you sharpen which in my opinion is really dangerous. If you choose to build one of these, make sure it is designed so the knife edge is facing away from you while sharpening to avoid a very nasty cut. Don’t ask how I know this. See attached photo for a closer look. Hope this helps someone.
