Class of mindless sheep

While it may be true that they were kidding in their comments, it's the same reaction as whistling while you walk past the graveyard. Don't let them get away with it a second time, call them on it. Make them face up to the fact that you're just an ordinary guy who happens to own firearms. If you just laugh them off and leave them to their own thoughts, well, we all know what sort of bravo sierra the anti's can think up. Stand tall, walk and talk softly, and carry enough gun.

Stay safe.

Don't hide your hobby. I agree. Don't become one of them - a worthless bunch of sheeple. Everybody I know, knows I'm into guns. I have a jacket with an "AK-47 Owner Operator Enthusiast" patch on it. Gets lots of looks, and I laugh my *** off. I served a Summons and Complaint on the local office of the federal Department of Justice wearing that jacket. Thoroughly enjoyed the look on the the process attorney's face when she saw it. That truly made my day.

Heck, I always bring a gun magazine of some sort to the doctors/dentist office to read in the waiting room. I intentionally hold it up while reading to let the sheeple see it.

You should see the looks you get while reading the Shotgun News on the bus to work. One of the sheeple on the bus won't talk to me anymore, once I mentioned I'm into shooting. I call him a weenie every time I see him now. Moron!!!

You being from Texas, I am surprised at that. I am just one state North of you and the attitude here is pretty loose regarding guns. Hell, everyone has some. LOL Maybe the fact of it being college aged people was the reason for the reactions? Or was it because of the way your buddy said "guns"? Professors are usually liberals, what is this particular class?

And, what a wonderful hobby it is!!!
Hopefully something you can enjoy for a lifetime, and pass on down to your heirs that are deserving and will carry on the cause.

What a plan. :D

You'll probably be surprised when you discover it, but now that you're known as someone who knows something about guns, the first time one of them is mugged or has their apartment broken into and feels freaked out or violated by it--they'll come to see you to ask about guns--quietly, but insistently. That's when you will be able to be a blessing to your fellow man--you can help them by teaching something they won't know anyplace else to get, and they'll be truly thankful for what you have given. So try then to look back on this first day as the beginning of your service to others.

Interview

When I have been asked a question like this I respond that I am into target shooting. Usually the interviewer gets a puzzled look and asks about it. Then I can explain how target shooting is a very disiplined sport very similar to golf. This keeps them from freaking out and helps them to look at shooting as a more socially aceptable activity than gunning down masses of kids on a playground. If the interview results in further conversations, I can later reveal that my targets are sometimes living, or that I practice situations in which a potiential target might be shooting back. Just don't flood them with too much information too soon.

Hey Art,

I hope I misunderstand your point about the 3:1 ratio. What the heck is wrong with black guns? Are you a gun racist?

Why would one of us want to reinforce the sterotype that AW's are evil. Heck man, those are the weapons that are protected by the 2nd, not a duck gun.

Geeeezzz, this is the second - at least - time this week I have run across this attitude on THR.....................................................

Let's just bend over like good little repub's and hope the otherside likes us 'cause we bend over for them............................

I don't hide it anymore.

I like people being scared of me!

Plus, often the chicks dig it! :D

sounds like the student was joking and I am pretty sure the prof was. I would ease up on the caffeine a bit.

No he wasn't, but regardless, their jokes were based on the gun-psycho stereotype...

The class is a Human Resources class, and there are several papers due throughout the semester - so maybe one on stereotyping/discrimination is called for. ;)

I would hardly consider Art a "gun racist". I think he was only suggesting a way of communicating to fence-sitters so as not to scare their fragile selves and maybe open their eyes a little. ;) My approach isn't usually as nice, but I'm working on it.

A co-worker asked me if I was anticipating anything in particular for Xmas. I replied, "Maybe a shortwave radio. Maybe a gun." His response was "Wow, those are diverse choices." My counter was a confused "What, people who have guns don't listen to the radio?" The "duh" was not voiced but somewhat implied in my tone of voice. This guy seems like a decent, sharp individual. Probably needs an invite to the range.

At my law school, UC Davis, everyone eyes my NRA sticker on my locker as if it were the release from some mental institution.

The good news is that we are starting a 2nd Amendment society, partially funded by the school

There are enough fellow law shooters to make it work. Should be fun.

They actually have a range close to the school and on campus. The only thing we can't figure out is how does one get a gun to the range when it is illegal to bring a gun onto campus:cuss:
