I am new to having guns. I tried the search function and looking around the web.
My DH bought me a K frame model 10 S&W at an auction. It looks like it was rarely shot and was placed in storage poorly. There is small pitting on one side of it on the cylinder. There are a few rust spots on it when the cylinder is opened.
It shoots fine and is a beautiful piece
Let me see if I got this straight.
remove the grips
soak it in brake cleaner
wipe it down
now I could probably open it up using the guide on this forum but I'm hesitant
rub out the rust with a brass brush if needed or possibly a new green pad like I use for kitchen cleaning.
lub it thoroughly
Now I may not need the brake cleaner as I said it is really not dirty, just not given the TLC it needed.
What lub? My local gunshop recommended a 2 in one cleaner and lub when I bought some supplies. But I'm thinking otherwise.
