That’s a keeper! Mine’s pretty good that way, she’s even surprised me a time or two. For my 30th birthday she gave me an Army model Merwin and Hulbert open top. Good woman and a great mom.

I like a 44 cal C&B, but I must admit that 50 cal looks cool.

Somewhere in Federal Regulations it is stated that 'pistol calibers' can not be over 50 caliber. Wonder if that applies to C&B too.

Anyway, how heavy is that ball?

The balls are not usually heavy, the conicals are 250 , ball probably under 200?

If memory serves a 44 cal ball is somewhere around 145 or 150 grains.

My scale is not working right now, so I can't be sure.

A .45 cal ball weighs something like 138 to 144 depending on which specific caliber, whereas a .490” ball weighs 177.

Yes, not terribly heavy.
Loads on the net are 50g 777 with RB doing 1350fps

I got mine out the other week and cleaned her up , Dave make a great conversion , Sad to see he stopped , 50 grain of 777 is pretty potent and fun. It’s a very very accurate pistol

It will be awhile , cast a bunch last year just moved they are packed some where , I. Bought the mold through Dave when he did the conversion, he may still able to get them . I think it was around 150.00

I 99% certain the .50 caliber restriction doesn’t apply to c+b. They aren’t considered firearms for the purposes of that legislation. Note the Pedersoli Howdah, definitely a pistol, definitely over .50 caliber.
Oh, to have unlimited funds to produce a .54 magnum cap and ball revolver!

When I do cast the conicals I lube the groove with homemade lubricant and then resize the bullet in a lee resizing die. They are 250 grain

Could also look and see what Accurate Molds has, and if nothing strikes your fancy you can create something. I’ve had him make me .45 bulletS with a wide meplat for hunting.

Conicals shoot pretty good , that target is at 50 yrds,I was sighting it in
