Hey folks,I have a question about the Savage Mod 87A .22 also known as the click clack or gill gun. When you pull the trigger ,it fires and the bolt stays back until you release the trigger, hence the click clack which is what it sounds like.Once you release the trigger the bolt closes and chambers the next round.Question, can this be changed to operate as other semi's? It seems a little slower than the others.

most likely not without turning it into a machine gun......

i would just leave it as is and buy a 10/22 or a marlin 60 if you want a 'regular' semi auto.

No, it uses the forward momentum of the bolt to reset the trigger. Neat design, if a bit different. It is the only auto I have seen that will cycle shorts, longs, and long rifles.

No,it says on the barrel "long rifle only for auto".It was my Dad's rifle and he tried shorts and longs in auto and thought there was something wrong until a friend of his showed him the barrel

You want the gun to function, then you will have to put up with that cool feature !
They cycle shorts and longs by using them with the bolt locked. This is done by pushing the operating handle to the left into a hole in the receiver. You then cyle them simular to a bolt action (by hand)

my buddy has one, its great for teaching people at Appleseeds how to hold back the trigger for the follow through, because it is quite evident when they dont haha

I have a Savage Stevens 87D my father passed down to me. The bolt drop after releasing the trigger had me scratching my head until I figured out it was supposed to do that . The barrel says 22 short, long, or long rifle and closer towards the receiver says "only long rifle as automatic".
