Every so often I see (probably the same one) an XM110 for sale on GB, offered at $25,000. If you remove the "systems" portion such as optics and night vision and so on, what's a comparable rifle?

For example, what's the difference between an M110 and an LMT308 with a long barrel? They look similar, they're both 7.62, and so on.

If they're not really comparable, what's the next best thing to an M110 (but under $10K, or better yet, $5K)

Thanks!
Dave

The M110 is modified Knight's SR-25. You can get a new SR-25 for just under $5k. The LMT MWS isn't totally M110 / SR-25 compatible, but it's mostly compatible. The UK MoD chose the LMT MWS for essentially the same role that the US Military chose the Knight's M110. Either the SR-25 or the MWS are perfectly suitable M110 stand-ins.

Any high quality .308 AR would be equivalent to the M-110. The very closest I suppose would be an SR-25 since it's made by the same mfg., but any high end .308 AR would do the job just fine. Look at the LaRue OBR, Georgia Precision GAP-10, LMT MWS-308, LRWC REPR, and POF P-308. You can even build your own with whatever parts you want with a Mega MA-Ten receiver set. It will take either Armalite or KAC pattern barrels and bolts. Every M-110 comes from the factory with a matched suppressor, so if you want to really have the same thing you will need to go suppressed.

I have had hands on experience with the M110 stateside, and quite a bit of feedback from those who used them overseas. While a limited sample, the combat performance left much to be desired. Poor trigger and poor reliability when compared to the M14/M21 EBR with no performance gain.

If you want something similar, just get any decent AR in .308
