can clp breakfree damage wood stock finishes? i was cleaning an m39 and the silicone cloth slipped over some of the wood next to the sights, leaving a very thin shiny coat on there.

I have a break free question too.
The manual that came W/ my M-16 said that breakfree would soak into the bore and continue to suck carbon out of the metal. is that true?

I've spilled Breakfree on wood finishes with no effect. 'course i wiped it off right away. Now Wipeout Foaming bore cleaner. that stuff will stripp a finish faster than you can blink it seems. :(

I don't know about "soak in" and "suck the carbon out", but I'd say almost any thin consistency bore cleaner will get into the microsopic pits and crevices to dissolve or loosen the carbon or other fouling. This is one reason some folks let their bores soak with Kroil (a very thin penetrating oil).

I use CLP all the time and credit with resurecting 3 old and abused shotguns with plastic residue, rust and even moss in the bores. It would not suprise me if it would loosen any carbon fouling.

It will not hurt wood, I often just wipe down my shotgun stocks with the same rag, soaked with CLP, I use to rub down the blueing with after shooting. Never had a problem.

I have used CLP for about 5 years now and always finish cleaning by wiping down entire exterior of the gun (metal/wood) with a "light" coat of CLP. No ill effects to date.

Been using clp for about twenty five years on every gun I've ever owned. Includes 100 plus year old family types to Ar15s. Never had a problem.
